Best Movies Ever

4 pages and no mention of The Wild One, or Easy Rider either.

Does anyone besides me know of a film titled Pink Flamingos by John Waters??

I always liked Dune. There has been mention of it in the papers of late as there is a re-make in production. Cannot imagine it even matching the David Lynch version. And it wont have Francesca Annis in it....

and Spinal Tap, it really is the truth.

Anyone ever see Creature from the Black Lagoon in 3D? Saw that as a reissue in the late 70s amnd as a kid it was great.

Don't know if any of you "northern" guys are remotely interested in some seriously funny (to us) Aussie movies.
Three of the best I can think of are:
  1. The Castle (about one man's fight to save his home from an airport conglomerate - so many lines have made their way into our vernacular!)
  2. The Dish (about Australia's part in the landing on the moon - "You just bullshitted NASA!")
  3. Strange Bedfellows (Two "normal" blokes pretending to be gay for tax reasons)
Hope you like 'em
Cheers
Rob

High Noon,
And Topper...

Not a movie, but I can never pass up The Three Stooges. Although Joe Besser and Joe DeRita are pretty hard to watch when you think of Shemp and Curly Howard.... by coincidence one of the places I lived (my dad changed jobs a lot) was in Woodland Hills, Calif where I was in High School for a couple of years. Near our house was the Motion Picture Hospital, which was an old folks home paid for by the studios or the SAG, or ? where actors that were essentially down on their luck went. I was in band in high school and we went and played there. I remember seeing Larry Fine, and speaking to him, but he was, unfortunatrly, pretty out out it, and passed soon their after. But it was quite a thrill, albeit bittersweet, for a kid from the mid-west in America.

I really mostly despise remakes... except Kirk Russell in the The Thing was very, very good.

Oh yeah, I really liked The Babadook....

In America they have an old movie channel we end up on a lot, TMC, Turner Movie Classics. Sunday nights they show slient movies, funny to see who was in them before talkies, but I usually dont watch them much, unless Buster Keaton or maybe Harold Lloyd are in them. Buster Keaton was just amazing to me. The other night they had this Swede silent movie made in 1922, Haxan (first "a" has the 2 little circles over it.) Haxan title means The Witches or the Witches Through the Ages. It is really well done, it was a budget buster. And the youtube link takes you to the complete movie. It is very well restored, and the music is excellent, and is scored much as the original opening night score was played, reportedly. The whole movie is available here, unfortunately without credits for the music at the end. Pretty good special effects for 1922. A bit racy as well. All in all I liked it, it was even a little unnerving... fun fact, Satan is played by the director.

Click on the gear thing at the botton and turn off subtitles the english subtitles are at the bottom, unless you want some other language subtitles. Better on TV, but this is free....

I recommend watching the movie first, then read the Wiki.

I watch WAY too many movies, from way back 30s & 40s up to (a few) present-era (most are crap)

I like old Bogart movies (To Have and Have Not), Gary Cooper (Sargent York), Jimmy Stewart (No Highway in the Sky), etc...

Been taping and watching TCM for quite a while now , some real gems , kinda forgotten but there they are !
