I am toying with the idea of using a dual lead coil with the RITA on my cafe racer. I have a dual lead Dyna 5.0 ohm, but with the RITA amplifier mounted between the coils there is no good way to mount it. Mounting it on the side won't work because the leads exit at right angles. I have seen the black Dyna 5.0 Ohm coils with angled leads, but they seem to be packaged in pairs.

Any ideas on good alternate 5 ohm dual lead coil that will mount similar to the stock coils. Or a pair of single lead coils that could be considered as good or better than the stock 17M6's?

My reason for this is really because I want to use the 17M6's on another project.

That would be a feat that would bend the laws of physics and perhaps make God uphappy.

Move the RITA box?

Yeah, that was my first thought. I sat there staring at the bike trying to figure out where I could move it to and still have it rubber mounted. Not many places left. Any suggestions?

I could replace it with a Tri-Spark, been wanting to try one of those on an e-start. But that is more money and the RITA does a nice job with the starter and the engine mods.

don't waste your time with the dual lead coil with a rita. the rita keeps is an extremely long dwell and WILL cook it. I have been through 2 on my bike and 3 more another bike. I got smart and switched to the tri spark and no more coil troubles as the tri spark is a short dwell ignition.

Sounds like good advice, Windy. So the next thought is using a pair of single output Dyna coils. I read where the 17M6 Lucas are 1.5-2.2 ohms resistance. Would using a pair of 3 ohm in series be worth doing or would lower resistance coils give more life at the long dwell times?

IMHO almost any pair of coils that add up to 3 - 5 ohms should work OK. the trick is to dissipate the heat and most standard looking oil filled coils should fit that bill. the stock Lucas coils seem to survive well with a RITA but the down side is a lower output. you might look at the boyer dual out put coil that has a heat sink bar but I have NO experience with that one so you are on your own if you go that route.
