I just put a new K&N filter on and I sprayed it with K&N filter oil. I took it for a ride and now it won't run well at WOT. It runs fine at partial throttle at all RPM's but not when you roll it on all the way. Did I just get too much oil in the filter element? I just took the carbs apart and put new gasket in but I didn't change anything else. It ran really good before.

I had run a K&N filter for over 30 years and never had that problem unless you soaked the filter in a tub of oil, maybe you upset something when you replaced the gaskets, float or float needle or something???

What is your main jet size?

If you have the original Amals with chokes, try closing the choke a bit when going wide open and see what happens.

May be oil fumes over richening as well as choking full air flow. Nothing for it being a Commando user but scrape some knuckles again, wash it out and see. I've over oiled my share of kn type elements but didn't run bad I could tell so engine sucktion must of over come the excess > so you might of just bumped something carb related loose while fiddling filter. You did apply a proper thin grade of oil of course.

Put the old filter back in without touching the carbs. That should point you in the right direction without dissembling the carbs again.

I finally had a chance to take the carbs off and check out the problem. Turns out I didn't notice one of the needles had come loose from it's clip when I put the carbs back on and it was down in the jets. I put a new clip on and put her back together and now it runs beautifully. :D

Na nana na Na told ya. Its one of Commando lesions - spiffing up one thing and buttoning up as the start of next hunt and fix task.

I hope the old clip was still on the needle! If not, where it went is not a nice thought!
