Hello, I've been busy wiring the bike, im using mostly the main loom and adding adding headlight relays, aftermarket handlebar controls and a aux fuse panel. I've never work on a vehicle with red wires going to ground, occasionally get confused. Its like waking up one morning and seeing the sunrise from the west and driving on the left side of the road for the first time  . Hey its using brains cells so that's a good thing, don't need to get Alzheimer.

cheers from California,
(pray for rain)

I have a bunch of bullet connectors left over from a CB750 project.
Any opinions or ideas.
Be careful, theJapanese bullets are different size, and configuration.

oh yeah they are, I did mix them, I made new connections with Japanese connectors.
The factory bullet 4 multi connectors seem to get loose after you plug and unplug the wires a few times.

I need advice on starting a rebuilt engine, the case was split and there are new pistons(bored), new guides and valves. I applied assembly lube on the cam and lifters when putting cylinder on. I saw in the manual that its suggested that you oil prime the engine at the lower rocker feed line.

I have also seen some info about priming the chain tensioner inside the primar cover as this chain tensioner is oil fed. I would be interested if other MK3 folk do this after the bike has sat for an extended period of time and if so what interval?

I love the project and enjoy lurking here and watching your progress. I've got a mostly original 75 with 6k miles I'm slowly bring back to life.

Yes, around 200cc should do it.

I never bother. I just keep the revs up around 1500-2000 RPM for about a minute-which is normally enough for the tensioner to re-prime.

+1 It's the cam lobes that suffer the most for lack of oil. Since the cam spins at half the rpm of the engine, you need to keep things running fast enough that the tappets "float" on oil. Keep in mind that the valve springs are always applying full force against the cam lobes. The worst thing you can do for a fresh cam is turn it at low speeds.

Do everything you can beforehand (ignition timing in the ballpark, carbs primed, brakes functional) to get the engine to light quickly, then take it up to 2000 rpm and keep it there. It's been suggested to not let it drop below that rpm for any amount of time during the first 30 minutes of running. If traffic conditions allow, take it out for a ride while that's happening. A few short-duration blasts will help seat the rings, and the forward motion avoids any overheating. Whatever you do, do not "cold-crank" the engine with the hopes that you're priming the oil supply.

thanks for replies, wiring done, just bleed the brakes and and fluids.
I have a little delay , replacing the ICP and IPR on my 7.3L diesel. then back on the bike. Wife is working and need to get finished before she gets me this shirt,

Did a mock up, not running, put oil in it and spun over with starter and has oil pressure up to the rockers, that's as far as I got.

Please get that throttle cable off of your front brake lever. It is supposed to hang down.

ok thanks, I not done be any means.

As I'm watching the video, I half expected you to jump up on the bike and kick it to life. I was jerked back to reality when it lit on its own. You see, there's no Green Button on my '74...

Good to see it running. Now, go ride it!

Im reading forum info on best way to break in rings, basically I'm following this method-
http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

That was the actual first start, no practice start. It died, low on gas didn't have on reserve.
Im wait for rear caliper pistons and seals. I'm hoping to get on the road for maiden voyage by Saturday. They are having the last Auburn Bike Night Tuesday October 27, and EuroSunday on the 25th in Sacramento.
Plus i want to ride it to the International Motorcycle show first weekend in Nov. They moved the venue to Cal-Expo (yea :D) from the SF Bay area.

There is the All British Bike ride on Nov, 7th http://www.nortonclub.com/thyme/event_view.php?eid=47&instance=2014-11-1

My bike has wet sumped over night. about 10oz. ? all that have just read, sounds excessive.

Was that an apparent drop in the tank oil level or the amount you drained from the sump?

To be sure on wet sumping amounts, open and drain the sump then place a clean container under the open sump overnight.
It can be surprising what does or doesn't show up. My MK3 lost only a few droplets. One other bike with a new oil pump showed several ounces, or several hundred droplets.

Both, the day before the level almost to high, the oil level in the morning was was in the hash marks. heres a pic

When i drained the engine before pulling the motor out very little oil came out, maybe 1/4 cup.

Not sure about the wet sumping...did you put a new oil pump in there?

Viewing your video it looks like the bike was not wanting to idle...although you said it ran out of fuel.

What I really want to know is what happened to all those parts and tools that fell under your lift from the vibration? Never leave stuff in your work area when running a Norton :D

No,
I ran again, petcock wasn't on reserve, I filled up the carb bowl then turned off to look for leaks.
Look closer. no tools just trash.
