Hey Nigel, thanks mate that sounds great. Some dodgy weather on and off but Sunday morning or Monday looks safe. I think you’ll hear best it if you ride it, I’m happy with that if you are.
So what was the verdict on the mystery noise, or was the ride cancelled?Hey Nigel, thanks mate that sounds great. Some dodgy weather on and off but Sunday morning or Monday looks safe. I think you’ll hear best it if you ride it, I’m happy with that if you are.
Postponed. So what was the verdict on the mystery noise, or was the ride cancelled?
I am thinking the same. Part of the silencer has come loose.Maybe the tube inside the ’repaired’ muffler is cracked, and ressonates at a certain rpm.
Should be interesting. EnjoyPostponed.
But don’t expect much from my diagnosis … I just want a go on a genuine cNw !!
Cafe,Another day another leak
Came back from a 50 mile ride and look what I found. This one was dead easy to track down and just as easy to fix thankfully but it might, just might be the source of the noise after all. Actually yesterday’s ride was the first in a while when I had a bit of WOT fun and thought at the time that performance wasn’t quite as it could be but put it down to warm air.

Sleeve nut gone!!! So it’s obviously been loose for a while.
That noise started February, the last photo that I took where it was visible was in late January. All subsequent shots it isn’t clear if it’s missing or the angle is hiding it.
After I’ve replaced it I’ll re-torque them all.
Thankfully standard according to Matt. He now has his own but they’re too recent for my bike’s build date.Which nuts do you have, standard or cNw ?
I’d be surprised if it’s the cause of any noise or power loss, I think there’d be more visual evidence of gas blowing out if that were the case. But hey, stranger things have happened, and you won’t know until you try it.Thankfully standard according to Matt. He now has his own but they’re too recent for my bike’s build date.
I intend to ride (on another bike) to AN tomorrow and pick one up and the ‘bent spanner’ for the middle one and some other bits and bobs like a sprocket puller and a box spanner for the loose drive sprocket issue I have ready for when I tear down the primary.
What’s your view on my hypothesis about ‘that noise’ and possible power loss? I’m assuming with this nut missing I’ve lost some compression. Low down and mid seem ok but top end was a tad tardy I thought.
I’ve also ordered one of these to assist in the job as long as I can use it in situ @ 90 degrees.

I suspect it’s been gone for a while. I haven’t been riding hard much lately, <5k rpm so maybe yesterday’s blast just pumped it out some. In many ways I’m pleased as it may answer some questionsCafe,
The gods are with you in finding this at home after all the trips you have been on so far!

I had considered that tbh but assumed they’d need to be off. It’s only the front where the previous owner who lived on the coast obviously didn’t keep on top of the salty air damage.Looks like your barrels need a bit of a fresh up, a wire brush to remove any lose paint and rust and a new spray of heat proof paint, if you cover everything up you don't need painted can do while on the bike, the paint will cook on when the motor is run after it becomes touch dry.
