I think we should offer a few more Royals as an inducement???
She plead guilty to the lesser charge of death by careless driving, death by dangerous driving charge was dropped. So as first time offender to the lower charge, doubt it will be anything higher than a suspended sentence and likely lower. Which I nearly predicted in post 6.I see she's pleaded guilty
I'm wondering how long she'll get inside
I'm sad to read thisCondolences to the family
This case will be interesting involving a drunk off duty police officer killing a cyclist ...the sentence will be telling
Police officer admits drink driving, killing Auckland cyclist
David Lane died in September after being struck by a vehicle driven by Jada Manase on Stancombe Rd in Flat Bush.www.1news.co.nz
Bloody sad alright....I'm sad to read this
As I understand it, for a charge of dangerous driving to stick, there has to be proof that the danger, or risk, was international. For example, if you were street racing, you can’t argue you we’re racing by accident !She plead guilty to the lesser charge of death by careless driving, death by dangerous driving charge was dropped. She was fined in 2006 for 'failure to pay full time attention behind the wheel " according to GoogleAs I understand it, for a charge of dangerous driving to stick, there has to be proof that the danger, or risk, was international. So in this case, assuming she wasn’t on the wrong side of the road on purpose, dangerous driving doesn’t sound like it would stick. Truth is, she was on the wrong side of the road because she was not driving with due care and attention.
In the US, most states, leaving the scene turns an accident into something much worse - hopefully the same is true there. Hit and Run with a death would probably bring at least a charge of manslaughter. Also, to me, diplomatic immunity for the spouse of an intelligence officer is dubious. Pretty sure the US military members are not considered diplomats so not sure why another non-embassy organization would be.I can understand driving wrong side in a country that is different from your home country. There is a certain level of subconscious control of driving a car going on and sometimes the conscious mind is just off doing other things.
What I cannot abide is leaving the scene and then leaving the country to avoid charges etc. That should incur heavier repercussions than it has in this case.
was it a LHD vehicle and what side of the road do staff drive inside that US base in the UK??I can understand driving wrong side in a country that is different from your home country. Not sure about the UK, but if I remember right in Germany, I had 30 days to get it. In the meantime, the US license was enough (like a tourist). An international permit was also recommended but not required.I'm wondering if she had the USAFE permit that US military personnel have to have to drive on UK roads ?
