YesWhich shims? Are you referring to the chaincase stud 06-0376 ?

With the Tri-Spark MOSFET regulator, any of the available 2- or 3-wire stators will work, and a standard rotor works with any of the stators as well. If you have the standard electrical needs then any of the stators will work but any with a higher capacity than the original will simply have the excess wattage wasted. That said, if you do a lot of low rpm riding with all lights on, get a 3-phase.Thinking to request a fresh rotor and stator in my parts list to the shop. Rotor outer face has some notches where it was bashing the timing scale hammer-in screw heads. A rotor should not be subjected to machining forces like that. If the stator was getting rubbed as rotor/sprocket wobbled outward, it too could be close to death. Is there a specific rotor/stator combo I must use on this '74 850 or will any stator (two or three wire) work with a standard rotor? I have the TriSpark three-phase Reg/Rec connected to stock two wire stator.
Request any of the components that even have a hint of damage from their ( pick one - error , oversight , screw up , boo - boo )Thinking to request a fresh rotor and stator in my parts list to the shop. Were they Lucas or some other?Just be careful you don’t create a whole new list of issues by swapping out the rotor / stator. Many new ones run too tight of a tolerance twixt rotor and stator. The last few I’ve used I’ve had the rotor machined down before being happy with the gap.

I am confused as to the branding and ownership these days, so wouldn’t actually know !Were they Lucas or some other?
I would never use that outfit again, get the cash for the parts destroyed and fix it yourself. Also found a number of fastners around bike not torqued to specs. Engine plates, iso main bolts, fork top nuts.
Wassell owns several of the old names, including part of Lucas (classic motorcycle, I think). For a time, the Lucas stuff was just aftermarket repackaged. All current Lucas I've tried are quality including the rotors. IN fact, some things like headlight shells are superior to the originals IMHO. Before Lucas rotors were available, I used Sparx and I did have some troubles with them.I am confused as to the branding and ownership these days, so wouldn’t actually know !
They have rented the names from the Trademark owners under the terms of a Licencing Agreement.Wassell owns several of the old names
Wassell sells two versions of that switch to dealers. The one that does not work - hopefully they've quit now with my complaints and having to refund me. And, a "Genuine Lucas" one that is better than original.Hit and miss quality as far as I am concerned and not like the original parts especially the switches.
OK, maybe "owns" is too strong a word. They now own the right to manufacture and sell under some of the classic names (Lucas, Girling, Hepolite). They have rented the names from the Trademark owners under the terms of a Licencing Agreement.
Their use of Jones may be the exception as the Trademark may have lapsed.
Just for my understanding here, when you say ‘genuine Lucas’ you are referring to Wassell sourced Lucas branded parts ?OK, maybe "owns" is too strong a word. They now own the right to manufacture and sell under some of the classic names (Lucas, Girling, Hepolite).
Do you remember if the box was green or red? The current red boxes have bubble wrap around the stator and the box is still has about 1/2" of head space. I don't know the details, but I think the other Lucas uses green and made Wassell stop, hence the switch to red which seem to all be a little oversized. My only fault with the current Lucas stators is the sleeving is not molded to the wire - that's good in that the cable is much more flexible, but bad in that it's bigger around so it can be hard to get started through the grommet.Just for my understanding here, when you say ‘genuine Lucas’ you are referring to Wassell sourced Lucas branded parts ?
The last stator I got was Lucas branded (or the box was), it had been forced into a box that was slightly too small and that, along with the fact that the ‘poting’ for the wire protruded slightly, meant that the wire was bent over hard and tight. Tight enough in fact to split the insulation and expose the copper core.
The retailer swapped it for me.
The replacement was the same.
After photos and emails and requesting them to check carefully, the third one was fine.
"Genuine Lucas" when referring to motorcycle parts means Wassell. Not sure who it means when talking about car parts.Just for my understanding here, when you say ‘genuine Lucas’ you are referring to Wassell sourced Lucas branded parts ?
