Completed Handlebar Risers

Completed Handlebar Risers 1 in.
Parts required :
2 - Chromed Steel 1 in. spacers 3/4" OD / 3/8" ID x 1 in. long from ACE Hardware
2 - M10-1.5 pitch x 70 mm long (low head) grade 8.8 steel cap screws (MUST BE LOW HEAD and grade 8 or better) from Fastenal p/n 90616
LHSCS M10-1.5 X 70
Must reuse factory M10 nuts which are locking type or better yet buy new Norton lock nuts. (not nyloc)
This spacer is an addition to the Norton Factory short aluminum spacer . Save old short bolts for converting back . Torque to factory specs .

A one piece aluminum spacer would have been nice , the same diameter as the original ! But this stuff is available at a very reasonable cost. This should really help the hand and wrist pressure . We are getting older...

Not meant to be different , just comfortable. You can buy higher bars and do the same thing . I like the Norton bar bend and look , just needed it to be a little closer to me for those long rides. If somebody needs to order up a set of sport lines , Jim at HEL USA has the information from this project. These offset risers are available all over the internet , just punch in motorcycle handlebar offset riser .

Very nice, Tony. I like their adjustability. Wish I had seen those before I made mine. Mine work well for me, but with the height and offset I picked, I have to remove them every time I take the tank off, and I'm getting tired of that.

Hello lcrken , The real benefit to the other owners now is that they can call HEL USA and get the stock sport dimensions and banjo bends ,. All the owners have to do is add what length increase they want if any. I think that is a real big plus for those seeking to attempt this. Next time if we can find a nice handlebar we can get rid of the adapter entirely,. Thanks for your kind words , it means a great deal to me if I can help us move forward. I have all the lengths if someone wants them.

Question for the collective, for a 1" riser on a 961 can you use the original brake & clutch lines? Or do these need to be replaced? Any issues with the wiring? Your consideration would be appreciated?
G'day from Oz!

A 1 in riser is the ablsolute maximum for a Sport or SF . 3/4 in will be safer for the front brake line tightening at full fork extension. You can give a little back by raising the forks in the triple clamps just a bit .

Hi TonyA

Handle bar risers are definitely something I am trying to do now for my 2010 Norton 961 SE ( but undecided on the method)

I have considered the "Pivoting handle riser concept" and while it looks easy to install, my concern so far has been the "old lever principle"
i.e. The greater the distance from the original bar , the "risen handlebar" might pivot forward under heavy braking............(I am not an engineer) ....hence my concern
I have asked one supplier who only states they have sold many with no problem (how many times have we heard that)

Second query is that you have torqued the "riser pivots as per the Norton Manual, i.e. no gap at the front of the handlebars, but not the "mounted risen handle bars"
Is this intentional
i.e something the manufacturer advised?

Much appreciate your advice

Kindest Regards

Roadrocket

The gap on the original Norton handlebar clamp is there , but small . The after market riser has a greater gap , this is the way they were made. No problems with the hadlebars rotating or moving under braking . It is very secure , no worries here. Just make sure you have the correct diameter riser for your bars.

This is my current setup a FULL 1 in. higher than before. Now I am comfy !!

Thought I would toss in a pic of the bar risers I just put on. They're the Rox Speed FX Barback Risers (Mfg Part #: 3R-B17R-15K). Provide 1.5" Up, and 1" Back.

That sounds like a good compromise ,. No cables/hoses/wires to change ? Looks nice .
