Sounds like in the UK it would be Maxtons.
Wasnt there a tight fit issue there tho?
On the site i was one there was a clickable link at the top of the home page, that went to a retail site where prices were shown once the options were selected. This the info on the 7614, no prices, nothing for the Commando, etc:
I'm with you guys. Interested in buying Ikon shocks but the website does a poor job at explaining options and I actually parked the idea when it all got too hard.Likewise, the IKON USA website is a confusing jumble of seemingly contradictory information. I too purchased their basic shock for
Commandos, which have the longer lower section that will clear the chain guard. I don't race or thrash my bike though I enjoy
a spirited run through the twisties. This model has only a 3 position spring load (no rebound adjustment) and is rebuildable. It
is about half of the cost of the upper range IKON shocks. This shock is definitely an improvement over the 12 year old Hagon
shock it replaced and while a little bit more money, I feel it to be good value.
Select Commando and Interstate instead of 750/850

Thanks for the info. I have Hagons on that have been on since 2006 so I was looking for comparisons.Dommie Nator asked about Ikon performance compared to Falcon.
I have earlier Falcons (rubbish preload with circlip type adjustment, but assume everything else similar to current spec?) on my commando, but Koni/Ikon 7610s on a Jota, Guzzi T3 and Bonnie T140. As you can guess, I rate the 7610s for longevity, damping performance and finish, but not sure I'd pay current prices for them or the 7614s (which I've never tried to be fair) new, with Falcons and possibly Maxton near the same price point, Just 70s technology vs much newer and the steel bodied 7610s weigh a ton compared to anything alloy bodied.
All these a step up from Hagons, it always makes me laugh when you see very high end resto-mods on a lot of bikes (not just brits) with Hagons on, a very very average shock in my experience. The 2 year old Hagons on my T140 bonnie had less damping than the original 40 year old (at the time) Girling shocks on my '68 bonnie! Putting Konis on was night and day. The Falcons are a bargain in my opinion.
Not sure why the rrsitance to screw type preload adjusters on the 7614s? I had a pair of v v expensive Ohlins on an (ex-race) Harley XR1200. Nice enough shocks (though not worth the £1000+ price tag they apparently came with, was part of the Harris race kit). The screw preloadfs could be done by hand and pretty difficult to cock up mismatching both sides, at least to any degree that mattered in the real world? Can't comment on the 7614s specifically, but nowt wrong with the principle?
I'd also look at YSS, may go that way upgrading the Jota (which gets ridden quite hard compared to the rest).
You’re not that wrong Cab, Hyde does sell them. But when I enquired a while back he basically recommended the Hagon’s !
I’m with Wavey on the Hagons though, so ended up buying neither from Hyde !
Nigel, When your front forks got out of control the other day, that might have been the rear shocks talking to you. When the back end is jumping, you feel it to be the front.
Comments on Maxton v. Falcon?
Price on Falcon seems competative with Koni at least:
Aluminium bodied shocks ............................................................................ £401.40
Aluminum units for Honda K4 with fork ends ..................................................£445.80
Matchless G50 with fork ends .......................................................................£467.40
Aluminium bodied shocks with rebound damping adjusters .............................. £569.40
and now we have to pay more taxes to cover it all.
We shall see.
Sadly, irrespective of ones political preferences, that is a done deal. The govt is committing unprecedented sums (as they should) and it is all gonna have to be paid for...
