Ikon shock choice

I have used Koni shocks for many years. When I was a kid, I did not know to remove the bump rubber to adjust the damping . A friend was watching me race and saw the rear wheel jumping I felt it through the front.

This the info on the 7614, no prices, nothing for the Commando, etc:
On the site i was one there was a clickable link at the top of the home page, that went to a retail site where prices were shown once the options were selected.

I like the stock look but at the price point the Maxies are looking box stock to me.

Likewise, the IKON USA website is a confusing jumble of seemingly contradictory information. I too purchased their basic shock for
Commandos, which have the longer lower section that will clear the chain guard. I don't race or thrash my bike though I enjoy
a spirited run through the twisties. This model has only a 3 position spring load (no rebound adjustment) and is rebuildable. It
is about half of the cost of the upper range IKON shocks. This shock is definitely an improvement over the 12 year old Hagon
shock it replaced and while a little bit more money, I feel it to be good value.
I'm with you guys. Interested in buying Ikon shocks but the website does a poor job at explaining options and I actually parked the idea when it all got too hard.

Just went back t the Ozzie site and searched on Commando. All it came up with was front fork springs. Think their webpage programmer needs to go back to training school.

Dommie Nator asked about Ikon performance compared to Falcon.
I have earlier Falcons (rubbish preload with circlip type adjustment, but assume everything else similar to current spec?) on my commando, but Koni/Ikon 7610s on a Jota, Guzzi T3 and Bonnie T140. As you can guess, I rate the 7610s for longevity, damping performance and finish, but not sure I'd pay current prices for them or the 7614s (which I've never tried to be fair) new, with Falcons and possibly Maxton near the same price point, Just 70s technology vs much newer and the steel bodied 7610s weigh a ton compared to anything alloy bodied.
All these a step up from Hagons, it always makes me laugh when you see very high end resto-mods on a lot of bikes (not just brits) with Hagons on, a very very average shock in my experience. The 2 year old Hagons on my T140 bonnie had less damping than the original 40 year old (at the time) Girling shocks on my '68 bonnie! Putting Konis on was night and day. The Falcons are a bargain in my opinion.
Not sure why the rrsitance to screw type preload adjusters on the 7614s? I had a pair of v v expensive Ohlins on an (ex-race) Harley XR1200. Nice enough shocks (though not worth the £1000+ price tag they apparently came with, was part of the Harris race kit). The screw preloadfs could be done by hand and pretty difficult to cock up mismatching both sides, at least to any degree that mattered in the real world? Can't comment on the 7614s specifically, but nowt wrong with the principle?
I'd also look at YSS, may go that way upgrading the Jota (which gets ridden quite hard compared to the rest).

Thanks for the info. I have Hagons on that have been on since 2006 so I was looking for comparisons.
I've asked Falcon for a quote but not heard back yet.
I mistakenly thought Ikons were something to do with Mr Hyde (other than just a dealer) and I wouldn't have bothered if so.

I see even the professionals can't spell MV Agusta. Like the bloke who did my dyno run. Apparently I've been riding a Nortan all these years and didn't know it. Still can't find the correct transfers for the tank.

You’re not that wrong Cab, Hyde does sell them. But when I enquired a while back he basically recommended the Hagon’s !

I’m with Wavey on the Hagons though, so ended up buying neither from Hyde !

Nigel, When your front forks got out of control the other day, that might have been the rear shocks talking to you. When the back end is jumping, you feel it to be the front.

Al, I hear you and I very much agree with your logic, it is very often the case.

However, on this occasion I could see the front wheel bouncing up and down utterly uncontrolled. In fact another rider saw it and came up to me in the paddock to express his concern (I suspected an out of balance wheel, but it checked out ok).

Nevertheless, the rear end was a contributory factor I feel, looking at some photos taken by a track side photographer, the rear shocks were too soft, and almost bottomed out mid corner, thereby screwing up the geometry and weight distribution.

So, forks definitely not working... shocks definitely not helping.

Comments on Maxton v. Falcon?
Price on Falcon seems competative with Koni at least:
Aluminium bodied shocks ............................................................................ £401.40
Aluminum units for Honda K4 with fork ends ..................................................£445.80
Matchless G50 with fork ends .......................................................................£467.40
Aluminium bodied shocks with rebound damping adjusters .............................. £569.40

Thanks,
I did see the Falcon price list but asked about springs for a specific weight. 14st. including kit with quite rare two up riding.

I might not be buying anything atm though.
As a SE person I'm struggling to find the "special" shops that must have been put aside where £94.00 per week will suffice.
I've got plenty of work (wood machinist/joiner) but could be ordered to stop...

or start producing coffins?

Id like to order a coffin for my wife. I keep telling her she doesnt feel well. :)
All is pretty quiet down here in the southwest. Shops out of toilet paper and hand sanitiser but plenty of fresh veg and most else.
So far I think that this will not be a horror show and when over the politicians
will bang on how they saved our sorry asses and now we have to pay more taxes to cover it all.
We shall see.
