Fullauto Head

I'm curious why we haven't heard from Timewarp regarding warranty.

Ed

Sorry I have been busy today but this thread did prompt me to contact the same business that did my Moto Guzzi cylinder heads, after some discussion there is a possibility oversized valves might reclaim the valve seat (They are a Kibblewhite agent also)
I will take the head down to them next week to evaluate but given its cost I am very reluctant to let it out of my sight.

This was only a heads up to anyone else, I would imagine that both my FA cylinder head # 170 and Gortnippers # 172 were not only in the same batch but probably sat beside each other at manufacture at some point.

I bought the head in November 2016.
Obviously at $3350 it is not a cheap purchase so I asked the seller to check it over.
When I informed that person one valve seat was damaged and the 3/8 threads were very average I was told .... Thanks for the feedback ie fobbed off.

The head should have been replaced immediately with one fit for purpose.

When I mentioned this damage in a thread right here on Access Norton long ago Ken actually replied in the thread basically saying FA heads are perfect.
I was naive enough to think he would contact me promptly, I have never been angry about it just utter disappointment.
As I have said in the past, a great effort by him (Ken) but at the end of the day if you sell something for money it better be fit for purpose, especially when it cost over $3000 bare. I guess I just got one that slipped through the cracks but do you think he has contacted me ever, including after reading this thread, of course not.
No warranty, doesn't care.

Just for anyone who just doesn't understand what I have posted and no I was not grateful and the picture is very complimentary.
Which comes back to square one, if you are looking at buying a FA cylinder head ( as per the thread topic) around # 170 check the valve seats for damage.

Fullauto Head

I apologise to all other members for being a whiner, ungrateful and complaining but do wonder what second prize was, two heads perhaps. :D

Ive had no issues with my FA head or my TTI box so far. Add Jim's head steady and flapper valve and Id say you are a long way to
Happy Valley.

I am very pleased to read that... As said I must have got a bum head, its only money.

Hi TimeWarp where you located in Australia as we repair Norton heads on a regular basis
And yes I have also seen problems with Faullatuo heads I guess the point that I was making sometimes new parts for what ever reason are not always perfect but at least we have them and they can be easily fixed. If you see the testing that Jim Comstock did on the 3 studs on the heads that pull out and yes I have seen that happen on a Fullauto head it is easily fixed by using the Helecoil method or an insert either purchased or made as we do.
The seat can easily be replaced with one that is suitable or recut. I am based in SA if you need any guidance you can call me on 0477250749 can’t work out how to post pictures of one we did this week But are good at fixing Norton’s

I really don't appreciate this sort of whiney bullshit. If you want the problem fixed instead of having a whinge to everybody else who'll listen, do what you should have done in the first place and send me a PM. I'm sure I can do something for you instead of you having to put your hand in your own pocket. I don't recall you bringing my attention to it in this manner. Send me a PM and I will do what I can for you.

You didn't happen to visit the Glemseck 101 on the old Solitude racing circuit or the Mannheim Veterama did you? If yes then we probably brushed shoulders.

John

Hello,
We might have brushed shoulders in Mannheim, because I was there on Sunday.
Anyway I'd be very interested to meet you some day.
By the way, it was me you prepared the big valve conversion at Yves' Fullauto head and so I had a very, very close look in its quality.
You know, when you change over from left combustion chamber to the right one you have to open the clamping in your fixture and re- clamp for the preparation of the second side of the cylinder head.
With this cylinder head it was exactly the same position of the valve guide bore as on the first side (exactly the mirror image). I never had this experience with original Brittish heads. This shows that these FA- heads are really exceptionell.
Best Regards
Klaus

Ok, so keeping on the subject of Fullauto heads, but off the subject of moaning etc.

Ken, there are various reports that somebody has taken on the challenge of continuing production of your heads. Can you divulge anything? Is it true? If so who is it? Can we expect an official announcement?

Cheers,

cliffa.

The reality is Ken, if you had said, hey I am sorry that slipped through...... I would have continued to support your dream and taken care of it. I contacted the seller and they should have contacted you ASAP, not me based on me being the paying customer and they were your agent at the time....... I did contact you when I first started looking at a head asking for a cost, you had no idea what they were retailing at price wise which seemed odd)
If I had nothing better to do I would go find the post where you avoided this subject and only replied on the 3/8" threads but I do not have the time today or any other.

Empathy can go way further than money but instead of any decency you avoid any accountability of the dispatch and throw insults.
I will have it looked at and send you the bill which as you state only seems fair.
Thanks for your reply either way.

You already asked that weeks ago (elderly ?) when i mentioned it and you were told who is doing the cylinder head manufacture.
There is also gearbox clusters on the horizon from the same company it seems (CNW electric start kit manufacturer) but can not remember if 4, 5 speed or both.

I opologise if that sounded to direct.

Time Warp, Yes, I read and remember the reply well, in fact this is it..

“I'm not sure of the US company name but they are also developing a 5 speed.
Someone will post the company name i'm sure”

So will you agree that you did not tell me?

Now a few weeks later you cannot remember if the same (Unnamed) company are developing a 4 or 5 speed box, and you are calling me elderly ?

I apologize if that sounded too direct.

Anyway, to get back on track, the question was to Ken. ( I knew I should have PM’d him).

Cheers,

cliffa.

I'm sorry. I have no memory of that particular round of talks regarding your problem. I can tell you now that I will not be paying for repaIrs organised by you. That's a flat "NO". Actually contact me and I will organise it at no cost to you. That is my final offer on this. Obviously your memory of this exchange is different to mine.

Yes Cliffa. The man is John Snead who is a member of this forum and the man who manufactures some stuff for Matt at Colorado Norton Works. Where he is at in the process is unknown to me.

Quick update. I am flying to Melbourne shortly to oversee the preparations for the next batch and to ensure the safe shipping of the tooling to Florida,

Can you put a little flow increasing chamfer on that edge to clean it up or would that leave the seat too narrow? A .040" seat width should still be OK.

Has to be said, the amount of whining and nagging that has gone on about that small mark does seem totally out of proportion to the reality of it, yes I might have been a little miffed, of course it would have been beter if it hadn't happened, but most of us would have lightly dressed it back and marched on......and how the hell this is supposed to have the potential to stop the motor when out riding I have no idea!

jseng1, the seats on my Fullauto would have taken just what you suggest with no issues, had I been inclined to do it I would have then matched the other one to it!

Popping and replacing the seat would be the maximum rework and that doesn't seem worth it.

You have an awful lot of magnification on that photo, how wide is the actual mark in thou? Less than 10?

LOLS It is a tiny, completely inconsequential mark cobber -a couple of thou of roughness- not even a cosmetic defect because it will be invisible. Not worth getting up on your hind legs about. Be grateful that you can get your hands on something as decent as these.
