Fullauto Head...5/16" Stud Issue.

Heads up if installing a Fullauto..... Fitted the Fullauto head. pulled it down and found that the combo of Fullauto, 0.020 copper gasket, fat mushroom tips on rockers, and std pushrods didn't leave enough space to adjust valve lash. So...off with the head. (I'll sort it out with a thicker gasket or the Combat pushrods.) Good thing it happened actually, as the front 5/16" stud nuts were pulling down on the end of the stud threads instead of the washer/head!? Found that the Fullauto head thickness, where the studs pass through, is 0.100" thinner than the stock head (I checked two). This was somewhat compounded by the fact that the JS studs I'm using have a 0.050" longer non-threaded shank than my old AN studs. I'll probably just use a couple of hardened washers to take up the needed space, so easy fix. Probably would not have been pretty if I had cranked it up with no clamping at those studs. Carry on.

Well spotted - and good to know.
Not a Fullauto customer, but I do have JS hardware on my Maney motor.

Is this the original FA head or the current STS FA head? I'm suprized they are .1" thinner at the 5-16" studs. Are both the original FA and the STS FA heads this way? An easy solution would be to add more spring washers to take up the slack. You can get the 5/16" spring washers from McMasterCarr part ##9713K416 They are .052" thick.

Yak,

A bit misleading about the Fullauto head stud ‘issue’. Stock hardware as well as cNw hardware will fit as intended.

The problem is not with the head but the hardware you are using.

Matt: Sorry, I thought I was clear ("Stud Issue") that I only had an issue due to the combination of head and hardware I was using. That said, my STS Fullauto head is 0.889" thick at the 5/16" stud location and an RH1 head I have measures 1.003" while my Combat head measures an expected 0.965". If I was using the JS hardware with, even the Combat head, I would not likely have had a problem. I also tried to order CNW hardware when I purchased the head but you were out-of-stock:). And...Thank you for the quick shipping of the head. It is a beautiful thing.

Jim: Just happened to have an Aussie Fullauto. It measures 0.893". I'll add 2 more washers and will be good to go. I will also respond to your pm.
