Positive earth speed sensor?

No, on puca page it is listed as for Honda and Triumph.
I glued a ceramic magnet onto my rear brake drum and attached the sensor to inside of chainguard.

What sensor are you using, is it the M8 reed-switch sender Puca supply?
 
Matts dimples (triggers) are none magnetic and his pick up is magnetic. You have to do it the other way around.

I drilled the nut and fitted the magnet myself. Asked Matt for a ‘special’ none dimpled nut.

P.S. I predict your bike will be a rusty heap in a few weeks without a coating of anti-rust oil, what are you thinking man, absolutely mad I tell you ....... :)

This is my set up:

Plain large nut from Matt (no ‘dimples’ as per his standard one), machined to take one magnet (can use more, but one works fine).

Matts speedo sensor holder.

Puca Smiths m8 pic up.

I had to machine an eccentric bush for the pic up as A) the hole is too big and B) align it perfectly with the magnet.

Bike is positive earth.

Very easy. Works perfectly. Very neat set up.

I have to say this is just the sort of abuse we a trying to stop!!
Also from a safety point of view there is no guard fitted!!!??
A child or a small horse could be mangled by your drive unit
Also you still haven't fitted your hub cover????
 
I wonder if you could use the sensor from a cheap bicycle speedo? After all it’s only a reed relay closing when the magnet gets close enough. They have the added advantage of being sealed and normally have some method of mounting them included.

I think they stopped using reed relays years ago.

The ‘new’ transducers are solid state and work by passing a continuous current through a small coil and measuring the fluctuation when a magnet passes by.

They can react much faster than the reed switch type.


I think they use both types on bicycle speedos - some you can hear click, which would indicate the old stool reed type.

I didn't mention the hub cover because I think it looks neat without one. Gives it a unique look.

Not at the shop yet this morning. Another cup of coffee and I am on my way. Traffic may be heavy this morning as I have already seen three deer in the yard that will slow me down some (shops 200 feet from the house)

Eddies set up won’t work as his is a pre Mk3. You don’t have the large reverse threaded nut on your Mk3. I can still get you the speedo blanking plate for the left side and a sensor holder for the right. The triggers for the sensor would be the studs or bolts securing your disc. Since Fast E. fit the sensor in his mount, we know that it will work on the Mk3 as well. You just have to reduce the hole size with a bush like he did.

Ok, so if I use the sensor Fast Eddie used from Puca I’ll need to mount a magnet near the disc mounting bolts, as the Puca sensor needs a magnet to work, I think I have this correct?

Just toss a couple of apple slices or cut up bananas ( no need to peel) and they won't mug you. Deer are nothing but 4 legged garbage cans that run very fast. They infest my sister's yard & await the food train.
Don't mention Eddie's cover.

the sensor with the Smiths speedo I used just needs a lump of metal passing by for a trigger, and is insulated from the bike...just wires into speedo head. Easy calibration too, once wheel rolling radius and lumps per revolution established. (Deer in the yard... it’s what’s watching the deer that will slow you down... or speed you up!!)

Interesting, we seem to have two types of sensors, one which requires a magnet like the one from Puca that Fast Eddie is using and the one you got from Smiths which needs something metal to pass in front of the sensor to trigger it.

I'll get in touch with Smiths & see what sensor they supply, thanks for the info.
