Swoosh, your filter will not have caught it all. You MUST clean out your tank!

Removing it takes 5 mins. 5 more to clean and another 5 to re fit.

With all the other work you’ve got going on, this 15 minutes is a ‘must do’ !

If you don’t, you risk instantly pumping grimey shit through your fresh built motor.

They are technically able to strain down to around 25 microns.

Yes, but through the breather on the back of the engine, through the reed valve and up to the oil tank. That is one heck of a path for anything. Once that engine was punctured there's no pressure in the crankcase and nothing would go up the breather.

I pulled the oil tank, lines and will take the oil filter off but it stuck.

All parts will be cleaned or replaced.

New oil, fuel and breather lines ordered.

I used a Gates transmission oil line before and doing that again. It's braided and sturdy.

My fuel lines are Tygon, and while they probably last longer than other fuel lines they still got hard after ten years.

For the breather (from the reed valve to the oil tank I went with a clear silicone vacuum line. I'm assuming that because it's a vacuum line it won't loose it's shape? We'll see.

The stuff should be here in the next week or so. I still need to strip the head and see what shape it's in.

Further away from the oil pump. So if you lose oil pressure it's going to get the least.

The head is out being rebuilt now. I know how busy Jim is so I decided to stay local. All the guy's in the club use this shop, he's been rebuilding Norton heads since he was doing work for Kenny Dreer. Maybe before then. More on that later too.
