Does your Tach do this ?

I ran right out to try it. Nope. Not at all. Interesting phenomena.

I believe I do as the bike wont hold a battery unless on the "Store" while parked. How do I test for this?
 
It's not a problem, just an undocumented feature that came free with your 961.

Pull the clocks/opimate fuse out from the fuse box , the place your amp meter probes into the connections where the fuse was pulled out. Have the meter set for the milliamp scale and have the probes in the current position ma jacks on the meter (red in ma , black to com , dial set to ma). Then read the current off the meter. Let us know what reading you are getting . MX said his was 19ma . Others have reported 11ma and 9 ma , I have less than 2 ma. Others like FE may have even less , his battery lasts a long time with no maintenance charger. I have gone two weeks without a charge and I can start my bike no issues. Some of these VDO's must be drawing more current than others. Once you get that information , find out which tacho or speedo is the worst offender .

.3 micro amps ? Show us a picture without the leads in the meter . I want to see what the jacks are labeled. There is current being drawn , I just can't be sure just how much . .3 micro amps is not much or even .3 milli amps . Do you know anybody with a Fluke meter or a different meter to check this against ? Also if you start at the battery you can be sure you are seeing all of your current draw. MXMartin said he narrowed his current draw to this area where you are reading (optimate/clocks) by pulling fuses until he found the fuse that once pulled stopped the current flow. But what you are doing and how looks right.

I’ll have a fluke the next time and check it. Thwarted by two things yesterday. One I didn’t have the manual with me and trying to follow the schematic on the iPhone was too difficult. The other was trying to remove these annoying things. At least 25min cursing and swearing trying to get them off. There must be a better solution surely.
