Flat bars

I must say, I like the aesthetics of the raised clipons quite a bit too, that's why I was wondering about the switch wire lengths.
At around $400 per set, I want to be sure that the wires will fit without stretching to the breaking point when turning the bars side to side.
When I had my tank off last year on my CR I did notice that there is not much slack remaining, if any in my switch wires.
Maybe this is because my CR is a 2013, and back then perhaps the Sport, and SF models with bars had longer wires than the CR's.

Nigel, your anniversary CR is a 2018, and maybe now the factory has changed to using only one length of wire on their switches, regardless if a CR or SF, or Sport. I find it difficult to believe Rob's post that prior to ABS all models have the same switch cube wire lengths. My wires are definitely way too short to fit bars like the Sport and SF models are supplied with.

I bought a set of Norman Hyde M bars while planning to convert over from the clipons, but I now prefer the raised clipons.
They should relieve the wrist, and shoulder stress sufficiently for my needs, but still retain the Cafe appearance of the bike.

David, It appears in your photos that you turned the throttle lines to face down under the bars, do they interfere at all with the front brake light switch wire coming from the brake light switch?

Indeed, the wiring must be different on the newer models vs older.

You say your switch wires go under the tank?

Mine go into the headlight ...

My prior post was misleading.
My switch wires go into the headlight bucket as well.
What I meant was that I checked the wire play/adjustment when I had the tank off to replace my battery last year.
I didn't have any significant additional length to pull out of the headlight bucket.

I noticed on the Bikemart ABM page that there are two clamp styles available, Slim and Wide.
The Slim clamp has a fork tube clamp 27mm tall, the Wide model has a 39mm tall fork tube clamp.
The stock Commando clip on has a 32mm tall fork tube clamp.

With the stock Commando headlight ears in place on the fork tubes, the Slim clamp would need a 5mm thick spacer machined to fill the standard 32mm clip on space.
The Wide clamp is 7mm too tall to fit with the Commando headlight ears.
Of course, I’m really interested in the Wid-er of the two clamps.
Bummer!

The Dominator does not use the Commando fork tube mounted headlight ears, so this issue is not a problem for the Dominator.
Life can be a real bitch sometimes.

Looks like the only rational solution to avoid this problem is to sell my CR, and buy a Dominator.

Some of the recent Mk2 Commandos (50th Anniv.) have the Domi style yokes and headlight mounts

Yea. Interesting. In another 50 years, the lucky bloke with the Dommie parts on his anniversary bike will have the "super rare collectible". Kind of neat when somebody goes to the wrong parts bin.;)

Took her out for a spin today, better than the originals, but I still think I am going to put fatbars on it, so these maybe up for sale

Anyone know the part number for longer Throtle cables, or do o get them made?

PM Rob for the parts David, he’ll sort you out.

I see you’re in Kent, why not try and meet up with a local 961 owner and try theirs out for riding position etc?

David
As FE says, meet up with a 961 owner - Blightybrit/SF - Richard Pearce - is close to you, Ramsgate area. PM him?
John
