Shipping a crankcase

I found these couplings at Home Depot. About a buck each.

Approximately the size of the bearings but wider.

Once I sandwiched it all together there was a gap. The cases are held with zip ties. The crank can't really move. And the cases won't rub.

The drive side has the seal and the crank is nice and centered.

Protected by a piece of pipe.

The oil pump drive can't hit the case on the other side.

Extra thick sturdy box inside the bin. And a blanket.

It sits in really nice. There will be additional protection for the sides and top.

Some extra goodies for @manx850. I haven't heard from him since I called him. He said to text but I'm not sure that will work. I'll call him tomorrow to confirm shipping.

I would remove that oil pump drive worm gear, too close for comfort.

You still want some plywood under that cardboard...

I'm going to protect that gear better.

The cardboard box is the thickest cardboard I have ever seen. No need for a board.

Just the crankcase and crankshaft is relatively light. I'll weigh it this morning and report back on the box weight.

I swear you could drop this out of a plane and it would survive. Unless it was going to Alaska...

I'm sure we'll get a full report from @manx850 when he gets it. Heads out tomorrow.

I have shipped lot of tube amps. Heavy iron transformers and some of them pretty much a two man lift. I would be nervous shipping that. Roll some cardboard into tubes and pack around the cases cuz they look like they'll move. The tub is great idea. But it looks like the case is in direct contact with the top, which might not be so great.

The case will not move. I picked it up and shook the hell out of it. But you have to be nervous shipping anything, especially heavy stuff.

We'll find out how it made it on Wednesday when it's due to arrive. I'm sure if it's bad that @manx850 will post pics and call me nasty names.

Well Dave the package arrived today in one piece, nice job on your part all looks good on first inspection!....Thanks!
