Cover the entire surface.
Thin coat.
Don't worry about sqeeze out.
Any small overage will still be firmly adhered 20 years from now.
 
Again the point is to put it on so thin that there is essentially no squeeze out. Spread it on with a brush or your finger in a nitrile glove. Don't glop a big bead on and slam the parts together.

I've spent hours cussing people using it who thought more was better, and I especially cuss those using it on both sides of the timing, gearbox inner and gearbox outer cover gaskets. Those covers are hard enough to get off without being glued on!
 
i find acid brushes work well for brushing/smearing sealant.
Soem are better than others. These are cheap enough.

Can also be used for anti-seize on bolts, I prefer an old tooth brush, curved bristles work even better..
Apply a dab on the bolt, roll it on the brush.

Almost.
A friend of mine from my other life who worked on aircraft engines turned me onto this stuff.
Been using it for assembly for more years than I care to say on any and all engine assembly.
I used it on a 1960 Big Healy rebuild that had something like 3 or 4 different types of metal involved in surface to surface sealing/attachment...different expansion and contraction rates for each metal during heat and cooling cycle.
Sealed seams always remained sealed.

I was helping on a Mercury Racing Engine.
Mecrury spec'd their special sealant, we ordered it.
This came in a Mercury box....😁😁
