I know that this subject has probably been beaten to death, but after scouring all the threads I was not able to find the correct mounting on an early P11?
I am in the process of reinstalling any removed mounts on my frame (after stripping) and I can only locate 2 mounts for Lt. side battery cover my early 121 281. One is located on the front with a tab and one mount (broken) under the seat. Any photos would help

As far as I know, there are only 2 mounting points on an early P11. I have an NOS P11 side cover on the shelf and it only has to 2 mounting points you describe. The rear, lower mounting hole, as used on my P11A, is not drilled on this early cover.

Hi I can send you some photos of mine, can’t seem to find how to add them here. It is an early P11 (121242) with an alloy cover though the mountings appear to be original. If you send your email address I will forward some pictures.

Would you be willing to part with it?

OK, I'm travelling this week, I'll get some pictures when I get home.

There are reproduction steel side covers available from Walridge motors and others. These are steel with no mounting holes drilled or front mounting tab. These will have to be trimmed as my experience with them is they are a little deeper than original and on P11A and Ranger will require slight trimming around the ignition switch.

There were also fiberglass reproductions available several years ago, but I have not seen them at the usual parts vendors.

Possibly repeating the earlier request but any photos of-
1. P11 mounting point on cover/frame and
2. The ignition mount and how it fits with cover,

Would be very helpful. My P11 cover is one of the repro steel ones and had not noticed depth but have never compared against original.

I’ve got a very good quality fibreglass side cover which I purchased many years ago and never used as I sourced a steel one.
If it is of interest to anyone then I would be prepared to sell it.

P11 ignition switch is between the ignition coils, so the cover has no relief for the switch. P11A and Ranger 750 have the switch mounted on a frame tab outboard of the frame rail so cover has a slight relief to clear.

Here is the only photo I have showing the tabs. This is a P11A or Ranger frame, so there are three mount points. A bracket on the cover slips over a bolt on the coil mount (probably not provided on your reproduction cover), a tab at the top frame rail which takes a small stud that a hole in the cover fits over. And barely visible is a tab on the frame rail just above the battery box which takes a bolt (not on a P11 frame).

Ron,

Thank you for the reply and the photo. Good to confirm as I had mounted the ignition between coils.

Cover itself is painted and on but as the cover did not have brackets/holes etc it is an 'original' mounting system - based on my understanding re coil mount bracket and top stud. I am gradually trying to collect pics for P11 mounts so I can improve at some stage.

Am I correct in understanding that the stud mount you refer to is shared with the capacitor spring mount?

H

Yes, the stud mounts the spring for the capacitor below the tab and the side cover above the tab. I made mine a little longer and cross drilled it so I could insert a pin to help keep the cover from bouncing off.

Ron, that looks like a Ranger frame. The tab on the rear cross tube would be the front tab for the Ranger fender.

Does anyone have a reference photo on the P11 ignition key mount between the ignition coils?

Good eye! It's not my photo, just one that was sent to me when we were considering buying some parts a while back.
