I need a new WLA for a 1972 750. Looking around I have found several replacements that would work in addition to an original. At the very least I could go with the newer transistorized version that Norton went to in 1975. But I want to get some opinions on these other units and see what you all think.

First up is the Sparklight Eclipse, it monitor the DC voltage: http://www.sparkbright.co.uk/sparkright-eclipse-battery-voltage-monitor.php

Next is the Coolcat, it monitors the AC from the alternater: https://www.coolcatcorp.com/Merchan...Code=CEC&Product_Code=SS3AW&Category_Code=OBM

Then there is the Improving Classic Motorcycles version: https://www.improvingclassicmotorcycles.com/products.htm

And finally the RGM Unit that also monitord DC: https://www.rgmnorton.co.uk/csi/1245184/f/pdf/warning_light_control_unit.pdf

So what do you guys think?

RGM works for me, I also have a fancy multi coloured one that now only shows 2 colours, luckily the under voltage and 14.5v one.

I'm installing a SparkBright Eclipse right now, because my Lithium Iron battery needs a bit more babysitting than the old "yep, alternator is working" WLA gave me.

My OEM factory installed turn signals provide me with ongoing system voltage condition. My measurements with a voltmeter at various RPM’s & loads are quite accurately reflected by flasher cadence.
I know, rotten tomato time.

Sparkbright works well for me. Good level of info to be gleaned with it. Ive just got to learn to heed its warnings. I let the over volt warning slide and my battery bloated up after a longish ride at speed. Zener had packed it in and no longer kept volts below 15.
I guess thats why these things are called idiot lights

Install an oil pressure warning light instead of the silly alternator warning light!

i concur with Tornado, have both, the idiot lite for a an oil pressure switch and a digital voltmeter mounter of the tach housing... pictures in the new yr.

If you just want to know if your alternator is charging, then you could wire in a 5 pin relay like I did. Cost about $7.00 NZ instead of about $80.00 NZ. works a treat. I wrote a thread about it a few years ago, with the wiring diagram. It simply works by using the alternator circuit as an earth, so that when the charging voltage equals or exceeds the battery voltage, the light goes out, just like the original assimilater. Running with the assimilater wont stop the bike charging.

I kike it. The old fashioned way of doing it.

Don's OP switch does not include the light, you must sacrifice one of your existing bulbs in the shell or wire in a separate one. Since I'm not running signals I just used that bulb for the OP switch, and have the LED charge light in the former assimilator light hole

The site linked previously by SwooshDave has a voltage warning light combined with an oil pressure warning feature. It takes a signal from a pressure switch such as Don's. Only one LED is used and can occupy the original assimilator lamp position.

Hello NASAman
I have the ICM unit that others have mentioned - the Deluxe one that indicates voltage and oil pressure - used in conjunction with one of Don Pender's oil pressure switches.
Works for me.

I'm suppose to make an installation video one of these days. If I could get to my bike.
