Which electronic ignition?

I'm getting close to starting assembly on a project that has been almost a year long so far. I think I have convinced myself into an electronic ignition and 3 Phase HO alternator. Which is the best option for $ spent. Looks like a Sparx alternator and regulator from Steadfast Cycles and possibly a Boyer Micro Power from Vintage Triumph Supply. I've purchased a ton of parts from Old Britts, and hear good things about the Power Arc. Any opinions?
Thanks,
Rod

I use an old Boyer on my Seeley 850, which is not programmable, and it never gives a problem. I've heard of guys with 650cc Triumphs who have had problems, however I think the application on a commando engine doesn't demand as many sparks per minute.

Avoid the Sparx alternator, there have been issues with them recently. I think you can get a Wassell or Lucas one, not totally sure. There's a thread started by Matt at CNW about the Sparx problems. Search Sparx alt recall. I've got the Trispark ignition but I've heard good things about the Powerarc one. Can't go wrong buying from Old Britts.

Cheers

#1 on avoiding the Sparx, mine is less than a year old and the insulation and wiring is cracked to hell. Still works but...??? I also have a Power Arc from Old Britts. Been having ignition trouble of late and not sure yet with what. Still going through the elimination process of switch/harness/?? Tonight I ran a wire direct from battery to Power Arc to bypass all of it. I'll find out tomorrow if its the cure of if the Power Arc is bad.

Welcome! I run an ancient Boyer analog, one kick starts, pulls great, cheap money. If it pooped tomorrow, I might buy another one, because it's prolific, which is a blessing when you travel any distance. .02

I have used Boyers; the only problems have been poor quality connectors supplied. I hear good things about Pazon and Trispark and that they will operate with lower voltage if the battery gets drained. The Boyer needs 10+ volts, so a good battery and a good charging system.

I have done 12 tons of research on this subject and I have decided:

1. Trispark
2. Powerarc (I think it offers more adjustabiity than I want/need).

I happily use a Trispark system - it does not seem to suffer from the low voltage woes that some do, provides easy starting (easier than the previous Boyer I was running) and stable idle,
Cheers,
Dave

I'm very satisfied with my Pazon Sur Fire, and Andy at Pazon is always very responsive and helpful as soon as you need some help.

Pazon for me as well either Sure fire or Altair depending on your budget.
have a Sure Fire on my often used Roadster and cant fault it timed at 32 degrees advance.
easy to fit and get timed

I currently run a Tri-Spark and have been very pleased with it. It's been in my bike over a year. I also have heard a lot of positive things about the Pazon products.

I have had numerous problems with the Boyer ignitions and they will not run if your battery drops below 12 volts and are prone to fracturing wires on the pickup plate. I would stay away from the Boyer until their engineering and quality gets in to the 21st century.......

Just my experience and opinion.

Well the results are in, with ALL of my original switches and harness bypassed the Power Arc would not even get me out of my driveway this AM. It will be replaced...

Based on my experience I advise avoiding Sparx.

Tri-Spark's ignition is a great product...

when i was researching them all, boyer has the new MKIV which is suppose to run at lower voltage now.

I will add a +1 for the Pazon Sure Fire. Easy to set timing statically but what a difference when it was timed with a light.

My issues with the sparx unit have been regulator related, my stator is actually in good shape. I guess they've doubled up on the problems recently?

Pazon Sure-Fire. Priced right, good technical help, 7 1/2 year guarantee. Have not had one problem since installing and I might add...great installation instructions.
