Hello all - after reading the numerous entries ref wet sumping I thought I'd try something (hopefully) fool-proof - and it works !!!. I have previously used the in-line valves but was never happy with the principle of their operation. I have thus fitted an in-line valve (intended as a gas valve) it takes 10mm microbore pipe on each side which is a good fit for the standard Commando oil tube. The valve has two mounting holes cast-in thus I made a bracket to fit it just below the right-hand side cover - it looks very neat. The main 'trick' was to also fit a microswitch attached to the valve lever via a light spring such that when the valve is turned on the switch operates - this in turn activates a 40 amp 12v relay which is in line with the main ignition switch circuit. The idea is that I cannot activate any of the bike electrics without turning on the oil valve (just turning on via the 'normal' ignition is not enough). It is also 'fail-safe' in that if the valve closes for any reason (vibration etc.) the bike ignition will immediately cut off. It works a treat !!!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you.

I'd love to see some photos of your set up. Any chance you can post them? Or send to me and I can do it for you.

Thanks!

It's so logical and simple, it borders on brilliance.
Good job!!! 8)

Hi Fastback - I hope you got the photos - is it possible you could try and post them up on this forum - I tried with no success.

Cheers,

I've seen something similar on a Norton in Britain in a classic bike magazine. It seems like a working solution to the problem of memory.
My bike currently wet sumps so little that I'm not sure it will pay me to fit one until it wears a bit more.

Here's Mark's photos.
