Hello all-
Not new to the forum, but had to reset my information due to non-use in the last year or so. Just thought I'd brag about my latest purchase...certainly not Sonny's bike in the crate, but this bike, too will arrive in a crate, or crates. (and Hefty bags, I'm sure) A lofty winter project. Please tell me I'm not crazy!
I won it on eBay on 11/11/11. That's gotta be some kind of omen. We'll see wich kind when it arrives on my doorstep Tuesday. More to come!
Well, I bought it...

Congratulations on your purchase after sleeping/napping for a year. :D Loads of potential to empty the ol' wallet. O.M.G. I sound like a real estate agent !

Not like it's something we haven't all done, once or maybe more. She's a wallet vacuum, for sure.

Well there's crazy then there's Norton crazy, you're the 2nd one and that's good. It's a good year for Norton and it doesn't look too far gone like many we see here. Congrats on your score!

Nice to see another Norton heading for the road...and another horribly chopped bike returned to its original state (hopefully).

Get that thing nicely polished up for a chance at Most Improved 2012!!

Good luck
Matt

I think they bolted the highway pegs to the front iso mount instead of clamping them to the frame. You may be very lucky.

looks like 2 can's of Honda polish and a new seat cover ought to about do it up right

Why are you guys so cruel, just because you've been there? Yeah, $12K.

Sorry but, I can't afford that much rust. Best of luck to him with this one. I've seen what Big D puts out there and I would pass on all of them. No judgement on the seller. If they can sell it, good for them.

I'm touched by all of you well-wishers! Yeah it's a project alright. 12k? God, I hope not. Bike, shipping and all, I've budgeted around 8k. I'm fortunate that I can do most if not all myself. The big money comes in buying all the stuff so unique to a MK3. This is my 3rd Norton resto. This one is by far the ugliest start compared to either of the other two. But, when they're apart, they all look pretty much the same. I think I'll feel better when that seat and those bars come off. Here's my last Norton resto-- It lives in Australia now. Sold it and bought a new truck. Don't love that truck nearly as much! Cheers.

I did my S for about $8K, and I had all the parts. Complete new exhaust, new rear fender, rechrome front fender, stays and gas cap. Did my own spray can paint, commercial powder coat for frame. New rims, spokes, tyres, tubes. Did my own polishing, Total rebuild of the engine. Sent out the head to Memphis. New pistons, rings, bottom end parts. Gearbox teardown and rebuild, all new bearings. All new sealed bearings through out, except the headstock. Stainless nuts/bolts for barrels/head. Stainless frame nuts/bolts/washers. Polished and plated non-UNC/UNF nuts and bolts. New chainguard, chain, oversized SS spindle and extra bolts. New stanchions/bushings/seal.

You may get by with $8K, but I'd be surprised. But we do it because we enjoy it.

Looks like a lovely project, it will surely keep you busy. I have plenty of Genuine Norton parts if you need anything.
