Got my polishing back today. He's out done himself this time.

Well, I bought it...

So how do you keep it looking good?

It stays clean very easily with a micro fiber rag. It never seems to dull once it's been brought up to this kind of shine. Of course, I'm west coast so it'll never see much weather.

SSSSSLLLLOOOOWWWW day at the shop. Not conducive for making motorcycle funds---no funds at all for that matter. But my silver lining is that I got to make some good progress while my customers' cars weren't breaking down. Valves cut and lapped. Head completely built with new Black Diamond valves, guides, seals and heat insulators. Got the cases back together with new bearings (main and big end) Check out that new camshaft! She's a beaut. The other cam was flat on 2 lobes. Bored the cylinders out to accept 20 over slugs and gave it a nice hi temp gloss black coating. Cheers.

That's coming along nice. I noticed on the bike you did that's now in Astrailia you painted the the front disc gloss black, I've been wanting to do mine in black & now seeing yours I really like it & will. Keep posting pictures, it's fun for us who just have to watch!

Wondering how much wear (loss of lift) there was on the flatted lobes? Also how much wear on the remaining lobes?

Russ

I haven't measured the old cam, but both of the intake lobes were compromised somehow. Took the point right off of each lobe and not smoothly, either. They look like they were ground off using the sidewalk. The corresponding tappets were damaged as well. I resurfaced those, but figured the cam was done. I'm beginning to figure out the sequence of events in the catastrophic failure and ulitmate seizure of this engine. I had a stuck pistion (only able to move up and down about 1 inch) I had a damaged camshaft, stuck valve, cracked valve guides, evidence of heat damage, but the bottom end was in excellent condition. 19k on the clock and I haven't the faintest clue as to service history.

When Noah was a boy , we always crack tested the Cranks . First order of priorities .

Looks like the ' calculated gamble ' payed dividends . Youd useually replace half of that , anyway .

Had the water got indoors , in pools ? .

Id be a devil , and go for a 2S cam , fancy valve springs , and a pair of Mk II Amals .

Ancestry & Heritage , and Like a Bonneville , Ram Chargeing does wonders for the efficency . :D 8)

I fell off the grid for a bit, but still continued on with the Norton project. I closed my automotive repair shop (sold to my partner) and have moved on to different and hopefully greener pastures. So I had to move the bike and a great deal of my tools and equipment to my garage to live among the seasonal decorations that seem to inundate every square inch of my new work space. I have since gotten a nice storage unit where Christmas and Halloween can fight it out in the confines of an even smaller shared space. But more importantly, here's a recent shot or 2 of the bike. More to come. I've wired in the Old Britts Power Arc ignition, new wire harness, fenders and horn went on today, etc etc.
