True that but I like to have the option.
Plenty of these come up on eBay in poor condition with asking prices around the $75/$85 mark.
I was somewhat surprised to pay $102.50 for this NOS Pre Unit inner cover this morning, the NOS outer cover went for over $200.
You have to wonder how much new old stock is left in the USA,it can't last forever but have no illusion that the amount (Brit spare parts) that was shipped there is most likely beyond comprehension.
The reality is still,a good deal of these motorcycles were treated with a throw away mentality, they were owned in a lot of cases by bodgers,as number deplete values go up along with decent spare parts.
That in turn created the catch 22 parting out of what might be deemed good motorcycles, supply and demand.
I have seen the auctions for those UK based breakers, all of the parts prices are over the top, perhaps prices are based on the date that day or some form of spinning pointer device.
I watch eBay fairly closely,in the grand scheme of things some parts still do not fetch a lot of money (even though there are cycles)
When I picked up a complete head light for $75 ,MikesVintageParts had a close to mint Commando head light listed at the same time, near plug and play yet it sold with multiple bids for $81 on a worldwide listed auction.
A replica head light body costs around $49.
