You wouldnt get 50 quid at a scrap dealers though . :?

Barn find one'd be fairly ' as built ' though . Not ' as wots left ' .

Wasted 13 bucks on Dec ' Classic Bike ' . Fairly horrified with
" I decided Id like to restore a motorbike , I never had one before "
Im not sure Percy tait would voulenteer to see if its running properlr .

Fair Enough , a full overhaul by a competant brand loyal restorer .
BUT Id expect it to WORK BETTER THAN NEW , after that attention , and at current prices .

Logically , for ;' wheels ' youd grab a cheap Jap whizzer , rather than commit such loot , to whats essentially ' Scrap ' .

High Milage , muti owner multi misshap devices end up with a quater of the parts serviceable , Depends on how you ike to pass the time. Best thing with collectors , is they dont ride em , and theyll all drop dead , one day .

If I was The Only Man in the World , whistle whistle . . . :?

Looking at completed listings it seems a 'good' bike is worth up to £4.5K - there's another 'ride or restore' available if this one doesn't appeal...
A piffling £3750!!!

Looks like the world has gone mad!
I just looked at the bidding history on the first one - one of the bidders seems to like dealing with this particular seller - 62% of his bidding history....

Fishier than Baldric's plum duff, perhaps?

He has bid 5 times on the same bike out of only 8 bids made in the last 30 days (one bid on another Norton from different seller) so it doesn't seem all that suspicious to me?

Am I totally out of touch or is this for real? £2700 ($4000) and not reached reserve!! Looks like a total rebuild to me.

Gooday Keith1069,

Nortons are becoming rarer and prices have gone north fast with retro the new cool. They will keep increasing in value.

I buy a few Nortons in the US. This one cost $6000 last week

This one was a good one at $2500 about 2 years back

What I can tell you is I can sell all of these for much more than I bought them for (locally)

I have never sold a Norton. I just could not do it.

Maybe I'm reading more into this than is actually the case, but the explanation ebay provides is: 'This shows the percentage of all bids from this bidder that went to this specific seller'.

Dunno...

5 bids on the same item from the same seller out of 8 bids is 62% (62.5%) of bids with the same seller.

You're quite right, but ebay doesn't say anything about a single item, and it doesn't appear timebound to the last 30 days, so I can still read this another way: I would hope that ebay provides this information to highlight if there are any 'relationships' which could be considered suspect. It still reads 62% of this bidder's bids went to this seller, regardless of how many items he's bid on, and over which period of time.

Who told you I was paranoid?

It's a 30 day summary of the bidder's history.

30-Day Summary
Total bids: 8
Items bid on: 3
Bid activity (%) with this seller: 62%
Bid retractions: 0
Bid retractions (6 months): 0

I stand corrected - off for some mental health therapy now...
I have to say that I started looking at it in more detail because of the nature of the bids - some large jumps with nice round figures, when most folks seem to stick odd numbers in to keep the hikes within 'reason'.

Back to looking for that elusive barn find!

That Proddy racer looks to be worth every penny. Jealous, I am

Ebay, Humans will find a "loop hole" in anything they can, I know personaly a guy whos brother bids up His items, and many times wins them! Then offers a second chance offer to the poor second highest.
I know "we" the bidders should just bid what we are prepared to pay, full stop. But again quite a few get carried away, bidding just because they have been out bid.
My ex boss bid more for some paveing flags than delivered by a local builders! He said to me " well i carnt let some upstart out bid me"! These are sellers dreams :!:

Ebay good honest loft /barn/cellar clear outs are very very few. Its now 80% buy it now dealers, and 10% "Bid you ups" .

Commando prices are slowly heading North in the UK......Vincents at £45000 :!: a nice sorted Commando at £5000 is good value for a week end run about.

Not original but that is worth it assuming it's all as good on the inside!
It's a funny old world. When I bought my bike in Apr 98 it was the best part of £3k and was a pile of sh**e. There was little choice at the time I was looking although from 2000 on a lot more Commandos started to appear for sale but prices didn't move seriously until what seems like 2-3 years ago. So we are in recession worldwide but our old relics are appreciating in value. Does that mean the higher prices are going to 'investment' bikes which may never be used seriously?

My Dad used to go to the occasional farm auction - quite often a couple of cantankerous old 'rustics' would rapidly empty their pockets for any old tat just to see the other old git didn't get his hands on the stuff. Great entertainment, apparently.

My Dukes are now so 'collectable' I daren't ride them on the road any more.
Only one answer - a Commando Proddy Racer

What an item is worth is what people are willing to pay for it. Back before the internet you could go to a swap meet and the only people "bidding" on that Norton engine sitting on the ground were the two or three people at the swap meet who knew what it was and might have a use for it, thus it could be had for $100.

To find anything out about Nortons you had to either join a club or send away for books, or be lucky enough to have a dealer in your area that liked the bikes more than they liked money(rare).

So now the swap meet is the entire world and instead of a few people looking at that Norton engine there are thousands and some of them are willing to pay several times what others can or will.

When I was 18 Nortons were just last-generation sport bikes that could ridden away for $500. If I was 18 to 28 years old now I would be buying vintage sport bikes from the 1980's and 1990's that I see here and there for $500-$1500 and having the same cheap fun that us older guys had with old used Brit bikes 20-30 years ago. The Brits have moved up into being for collectors and investors that have the extra money to deal with them. The only poor people that have them now are those who bought them 25-50 years ago and hung onto them.

On Ebay U.K. right now, this nice pile of Manx parts for 17K pounds:

Not worth it for me as time stripping is as important than cost of parts. You can get a good un for just over £5k here in winter

Keith,

If you want to see some really shocking E-BAY prices , just look at anything that (Norvilmotorcycles) are selling!
The danger is they could buy the bike listed & end up breaking it for 10K plus on their pricing.

Probably the best options available to enthusiasts is to deal with Honest Firms or word and mouth from Genuine Enthusiasts.

Have a look at E- BAY item number 350466973554.from Norvilmotorcycles.
A USED, BARE ,Cylinder Head for a Norton Dommie SS with all the Top Fins Drilled (Lightened)
A snip at £650.

Best laugh I've had all day

I sold a vintage license plate a couple of days ago and the guy called me before he bought it, my prices are SO MUCH lower than ebay that he thought I was selling fakes. I think I need to raise my prices some!
