Totally exhausting

Aren't most of them. I really wanted the big bores cause they were really nice. Evidently the problem with the big bore exhaust was that the CNW rear sets brake pedal can hit the top of the pipe. Its only a problem on pre MK111 models cause of the drum rear brake. I'm gonna just get some stock pipes from Commando Specialties and see how they do.

Best of British luck with that, old boy...may I suggest getting a line drawing , or 3D model, so as to visualise exactly what you want, so, - when your new pipes arrive, dont fit, & piss you off, you`ll at least have an idea of what you do want - & take them to the custom pipe guy to put right...not too confusing really...

I'm finally in the homestretch with my rebuild and now I need to find some pipes. I can't use the big bore exhaust I wanted as they aren't compatible with current CNW rearsets. Any suggestions? I'd like to not spend a grip of cash on them.

If its a stock 850 motor, it will run better with standard pipes. Big bore pipes have a lower exhaust gas velocity which doesn't suit the cam.

The CNW big bore pipes are double wall so they are small ID but look big on the outside. Jim

I have a big bore complete set of Viking pipes with about 1hr use on them. Roadster headers. I originally purchased them as an ss set but the maker totally fucked that idea up and supplied the roadster lows lung set-up.
It's not what I wanted so I am going to get a custom maney typ setup (which if they were available, would have been cheaper).
They cost about $1600aus but I will part with them for a lot less if you are interested.
PM me if you wish to discuss price etc.

Far out, thats serious money for a couple of bent tubes, I`ve gotten multiple hand made custom fitted complex coned 2-stroke pipe sets for less than that..

You are not wrong sir.
They were supposed to be the ducks nuts of pipes.
I have a set of roadster pipes with fastback headers so don't need two pair. I'm 38 so I figured I would get a good 20 years from them but alas, I don't need them.
Like I said, I would sell them for a lot less.

I got a set of the Commando Specialities pipes for my MKIII. They fit great and the chrome was very nice

Unless you understand the Belfast University guy's 2-stroke exhaust equations, don't mess with two-strokes. I can't recall the professor's name, maybe Blair?, but he did a detailed gas-flow analysis of two-stroke exhaust dynamics and came up with a design program. We used it exclusively for the various Starmaker bikes we made at N-V, and the difference in power from what was a clueless design of stock pipes was nothing short of miraculous.

From memory, I'm thinking that one of the Belfast designs gave the 360 Starmaker about a 20% increase in power at the back wheel.

Frank, check out the 2-1 on the Commando superbike race pic above in this thread, I understand that was based on one of Dr Gordon Blair`s recipes, as for 2-stroke pipes, its not exactly rocket science [but close, & was developed by former Nazi rocket scientist & M.Z. engineer Dr W. Kaaden, based on his V 1 cruise missile mill]. Plenty of harmonic pulse software around these days - the old Hal 9000 et al has no probs with the calculations .
I never liked the sound those 2-1s give, had one to Boyer specs [& likely a Blair design too] on my 500 Daytona, it increased mid-range torque like most collector systems.
However, 2-strokes always work better peak power-wise, with discrete pipes, even when potential harmonic synergies are available, ie in 120`triples, with timing/blow-down event pressure/flow overlaps..

Good to hear since I just ordered a set. Just heard back from Paul at Viking and a set of stock pipes delivered to the states runs about $1,200.00 in case anyone wants to know.

I believe the 375.00 is just for the peashooters or the headers, I can't remember which as I've already erased the email. Shipping was over 200.00. Paul Bryant from Viking emailed me these prices. Unless something shady is going on.

?? The Roadster Pipes go for NZ$375/US$309. I can't remember the shipping but it was less than $100.

http://www.vikingexhaust.com/products.asp?cat=Norton
Big bore system
Roadster headers $605
Can $935
SS headers $750
SS Bracket $95

Total
SS $1780 nz - $1400 aus
roadster $1540 nz - $1213 aus

There is no list price for the massive fuck-a-round though.
Pipes paid for in feb/march. Still don't have my roadster headers that I didn't want in the first place. They have been sitting with customs NZ since 24 September. Got an email the other day stating he refused to pick them up after 2 months of discussion. He requested I send them for inspection as I was not happy so now I have to find them, and organize to be returned to sender at my cost.
I would rather eat my own face than have anything to do with Viking hence the reason I am selling a set off cheap.

I think this link will explain it. Those prices are NZ dollars. $US comes out to $308 for the standard pipes. The $1,200NZ looks like he's giving you the price for pipes and silencers. My <$100 shipping cost was for pipes alone. The silencers are crazy expensive.

Edit: Dkt26, I didn't see your post till after I submitted mine.

My new Cdo Specialties pipes get a 5/10. They'll do the job, but will be replaced when better options and $ come together again.

Interested in expanding on that a bit? What do you find disappointing?
