TAB II Alloy Tank #3

I have the cross mount . It would be easy enough to make one out of aluminum flat bar stock . Did you get the iso rubber mounts for the front ?
Hi Tony.
Rich Phelps sent the cross bar and the rubber mounts. The cross bar goes across the batter mount tabs and the screws drop in? I'm going to have to put either a slight stretch in the box or slot it a bit.
After it cracked and rewelded its about 2mm off. Then again, I may be projecting.

I know I'm going to get comments, but not a fan of the alloy tank with painted air boxes and seats. The alloy should go with alloy in my opinion.

This is one of our alloy commando projects. Then we had Evan Wilcox make the exhaust, front fender, and fly screen which you can see here and it is even more stunning even though the bike isn't finished yet

An airbox would be that hard to duplicate or remove it like Tony did which looks fantastic

I like the posted alloy with matching decal on Stu's bike. The silver is compatible. My bike is black. It doesn't go. And to be honest, I don't care for all alloy either. Riding along the beach everyday, sun blasting off it. Not for me.

I put an alloy tank on my bike that was otherwise black.

I tried hard to like it, but gave up in the end.

So I’m with you on this.

Agreed, I wouldn’t fit the TAB tank and leave the remainder of the bike standard - specifically on the black bike. Looks too disjointed IMO. Looks great on the silver bike though.

I’ll be looking to paint fairing and part of the TAB tank and tail unit to tie the bike together. Looking for inspiration currently - it’s in short supply ATM:rolleyes:!

Here it is , pictures from Curtis , his tank not mine

There is a threaded stud on both ends of the iso-mount . Once the tank is in position over the battery box , you cas use your finger to push/align the studs into the battery box holes . The rubber iso-mounts have enough flexibility do this. Once the tank is down and in place , now you install the strap then the nuts.

Ah. So there's a little flexibility there. Don't need to cut slots. Thanks. I may install just for fit, then remove un the late Autumn and have it painted. I'll use the Triumphs for cold weather rides.
Thanks Tony and thanks Richard for posting my photos.

Said the man with the best looking black 961 in existents.

The tank will still look pretty cool painted black, although it would’nt be my choice to cover up all of that chrome goodness!

Have you thought about the original black paintwork Bf, but leaving just the scallops chrome - bounded by a gold pinstripe. Not unlike the Thruxton TFC?

Same fairing shape as I’m fitting so I keep eyeing up this paint scheme - or a version of.

Deep down I think you realize the thruxton is the better bike 😂

Mine is complete. Impossible to see any irregularities or defects from photographs of a highly polished surface. Despite being a bit anal with my bikes , these tanks are hand made - they are gonna be there - and I guess any irregularities prove that. They have the Monza cap exactly where I wanted it which is great.

Did you ditch the metal strap stabilisers for the fairing Glen? Your fix looked pretty permanent. I’m expecting something similar from the custom builder.
At the headstock I more or less recreated the Thruxton attachment on the Norton.
The supplied aluminium cage attached to that nicely.
At the fuel tank end I mounted the supplied brackets onto the ends of a 3/8" redi rod that does double duty as the front tank mount. I could take a photo of that, although your situation will likely be a bit different.
Here is the headstock piece.

Thanks Glen, no need though I kept the original photos you supplied. The rearward fixing, if required, will be different on the 961.

I’m still hoping that they can come up with a fully reversible option; no drilling or welding of the headstock or frame - we’ll see.
