Hi everyone,

I'm sending my father 2 Norton commandos back to Scotland. One is a 73 hi-rider and the other is a 74, The 74 may have been a hi-rider at some point, it was advertised as such but I have my doubts. Regardless, the 74 is lovely and runs great, the 73 is a surprise for him as he ordered one from factory when they were released and rues the day he sold it. That'll be a project for him. I had it running briefly before cleaning it up ready to fly from Canada.

I'm not sure how savvy my dad is with forums but I'll point him here for advise on anything that may have changed since he was last involved in these.

The differences I see easily are:

Seat and sissy bar
Exhausts join on the hi-rider
Twin carbs on the hi-rider, single on the other.
Headlight.

I'll get some photos up.

Cheers

John

Wow! Nice Son!
The tanks should be the peanut 2 gallon & metal types for those years. I've converted my '74 HiRider to Roadster, but still have the peanut tank (which I really like to ride with) and all the other parts for the next owner.

FFS don't use Hermes!!

And I thought my Son was a great lad when he suggested in front of his Mom I should get an old Norton to refurbish and ride , he made no suggestion of allowing himself to locate and pay ...... kudos to you !

Im glad my Dad doesn't read these forums, else I'd need to step up

Save your dad a lot of angst and do NOT refer him to this forum! Let him enjoy the motorcycle and working on it as he did when he bought one/owned one as opposed to worrying about a bunch of modern "problems" we've invented so that we can subsequently invent "solutions. ;)

I did consider that, it's a tough choice for me as I would love him to get right into the project bike and do it right, but his right and my right are probably different, plus it is his bike/will be soon.

I wish I could be there to see him open the crate to see them both.

Thanks for the adoption offers, I've been known to be a little twat for a good number of years so maybe reconsider. Plus, shipping bikes on planes is not a habit I can continue to afford.

I'm off to find a sticky on how to upload media, seems I'm not all that savvy on a forum either.

To upload video you need to have it already on a server like YouTube or Vimeo. Then just put a link in the text field, no html tags needed.

For pictures, you need them on an accessible picture hosting site. I use PBase.com but others can work. Alternatively pony up VIP membership and then you can upload pics directly using"Upload File" button.

I have refurbished a 73 Interstate, it was basically standard when I took it to pieces, and I took hundreds of pictures of every part on and off the bike, if you want a copy of the pictures I can load them onto a memory stick.

Surprise for my Father

The project hi-rider does not have a metal tank, the 74 does.

I'll have to get my brother to video it. If it had ran better, and had working brakes, I would've had my little sister ride ithe 73 up the drive as he checked out the 74.

Cheers
