I saw somewhere the other day a fellow beginning a restoration on a 1970 silverflake purple commando. That is what my first Norton was. Serial number 137706. Anyone know where she may be?

Roman Fireflake I believe it to be called I do. Good luck on the search , use the Force.

It's not in the tracker here but it brings up a point. I've been thinking about a more complete tracker. Lots of us know about bikes that won't be back or have become a part of another bike. If Jerry was interested he could expand the tracker here to include the last known condition, or I could host it. Someone watching eBay could see bikes, often with serial numbers, for sale and at least know where they were before sale and whether they were titled/registered or not. For instance, besides my bikes listed in the tracker, I have direct knowledge of one RIP 72 Commando, one 74 Commando that is titled but little more than cases and a frame, and knowledge of a bare frame with the serial plate intact.

Any interest?

Thanks for your input. The purple color in 1970 was way more pale than the roman purple. I only have 3 surviving pics of that bike and I will post it when I find it. I kept the girl on the bike in that one but am now wishing I still had both !! hahaha

Sometimes they don’t stray. Where was your first Commando when you last saw it?

Another thing I would like almost as much as finding my first Commando would be a 5 speed right hand gearbox. No doubt a big ask but the '72 I currently have just does not feel right as far as both low and top end. I am too old to do 130 anymore but would like to have a little better stability at low speed and lots of room left at higher speeds !

I presented that idea awhile ago to Jerry and he was not too warm to it.

I would be happy to host it, but it seems like there is no interest. If a bunch of people asked, I would put up a robust tracker.

I have about 4 engines, transmissions and three frames in which I could gather up the numbers :) Would you consider listing ebay , craigslist numbers from non-owners ?

My idea is to list everything people will submit or I can find and to have notes about how it's known. For instance, "seen for sale on eBay 12/8/18", or "I own it and have the dispatch record to prove all numbers", "I have only the drive-side engine case", or whatever.

I can see people submitting info two ways. 1) You can already make an account on my site and account holders could enter/edit their own. 2) Non account holders could submit the info for inclusion. Also, if Jerry and the Access Norton members are OK with it, I could start with the current list and include or not the Access Norton userid - I already have that info in my database since it is publicly available.

Most importantly, to be able to search on all fields.

If the engine number, certification number, frame number (if any), frame tube sizes, and frame part number, all where available, are entered, once we have critical mass, we could finally fully understand frames. I have frames that make no sense by today's knowledge.

C'mon Rich, I know you are just doing some sort of politically correct thing; you are never to old to do 130 MPH!! :)
If I could only get the correct Brit
m etal, I at least would give it a go !! Wife probably would not be happy but WTF!!!! Hahaha!!

I think I have stated before, but the "little woman" has said I can buy "our baby" if it is not too unreasonable price. I have been looking for one of the few remaining pics from the old days but have not been able to find it as of yet. But I will !
