"Build Thread" for my 1974 850

Do yourself a big favor and get another battery for your Dremel or pick up a used 120V AC Dremel. You will not regret it.
Your clean and polish efforts will go a long way toward performance as well as appearance.
Photos are fun to follow.

I’m about to start organizing my clutch install, and I find the online parts diagram small to read. To make matters worse, Andover does not use see through bags to see you small parts. While environmentally friendly, the paper pouches make it very hard to distinguish parts and get organize. In an attempt to have a better visual, I’m posting a few pics to help me on my iPad when I do the install. The first is a numbered order of small parts installation. The second two pics are parts matched up with diagram. If i errered somewehes, please let me know. Perhaps this could be helpful to others with bad eyes as well :)

Is your clutch centre in good condition? ( I may have missed that)..most important part for smooth clutch operation

After a lot of sanding, piles of mini sanding discs, and a buff with black then white, I am finally done my rear hub. It won’t get me a job at CNW, but I’m satisfied with the end results. I used 80 grit sanding discs from Amazon, and worked my way up to 2000 grit. I used 5000 grit and 100000 grit pads prior to buffing, but I would probably just go to buffing after 2000 grit if I were to do this again. I’m happy to have this job behind me.

👌Nice job mate...Give Matt a call...I'd love to work for him also...(Bit far away)...doing the polishing yourself is very rewarding...and good when its over :)

Good Day Gents,

With no research, I bought this kit online as I fellow member recommended it in another thread (I cannot remember which thread, but apparently it had a different name at some point.) Does anyone have experience or tips using this product?

Also, I am on the hunt for some stainless steel 750 style header pipes. Does anyone have a good quality source that they could recommend ?

Thanks!

I'm not familiar with that product but if its a clear coat type product...you may regret using it as ive seen clear type coating products delaminate on polished aluminum that gets the heat
I use this to semi seal the polished finish....wipe on wipe off ...
From what I can just read it sounds impressive

Use the clear coats and polish coatings judiciously.
So many of them look very nice when first applied. Within a few months oxidation and heat cycles begin to display their influence.
I learned this the hard way.
I clear coated this intake manifold. It didn't take long before I pulled the now yellow IM, vapor blasted it and reinstalled without any coating.

"Impressive wording"
"Will with stand 700 degrees"
No mention of discolouration

"Will keep your parts looking like new"
Untill a solvent or petrol gets on it.

A lovely piece of kit you have there Lineslinger...and a excellent buyer beware example of a compromised coating... unfortunately tested in the field.

Busy weekend with kids activities, so little progress. I finished assembling my rear hub today, and now I’m moving into uncharted territory for me….wheel building! I have a spare wheel from another bike to guide me. My plan is to start with the inner spokes on both sides, and then mover to the outer spine. Once I get that far, I will assemble my truing stand, and see how we go from there. Fingers crossed:).

Progress…spokes in, and now I’m testing our different configurations in my new stand. Unfortunately the hub is just a little too small for the tapered “points” to hole the wheel in place. Can anyone chime in if they have faced this problem before?

Not sure it can be too small. It's tapered to fit a variety of hubs. Mine fit fine which looks like a similar design

BTW, i found it best to true the wheels on the coffee table watching sports and having a beer :)
