Sump plug breather

I finally have sump plug breathers available again. If I have missed anyone that was on the waiting list send me a PM or e-mail me at >> comnoz2@juno.com <<. Jim

"And with a low rpm, long stroke, high torque motor, a dry sump oil system is probably not going to show any measurable power gain."

I would agree that there would be no power gain due to reduced windage on a low speed motor such as a Norton.

However whoever wrote that has obviously never had a single cylinder or 360 degree twin on a dyno and checked out the pumping losses through an open breather.

Pumping losses do not happen on a four cylinder [or more] or a 180 degree twin as there is very little crankcase volume change. There are always pistons going up as others are going down to balance out the volume changes. Jim

Anyone know an engine like that?
Dave,
It's not that I don't think you can read. Your problem is that you are selective in what you cite. :D A complete quote of the paragraph you cite is:

"Otherwise, increasing crankcase vacuum with more and more suction incurs no extra power gains. And with a low rpm, long stroke, high torque motor, a dry sump oil system is probably not going to show any measurable power gain."

He is referring to gains to be had by going past 8-10 inches of vacuum to 18 to 20 inches reaches a point of diminishing returns. That's mentioned in the paragraph ahead of this one, if you care to read it?

Jim,

Many thanks for the sump plug breather that arrived in the UK yesterday. No customs duties to pay, the breather looks very nice and will be fitted over the winter.

Customs Duty.......That one is pot luck Charles......

But there is a minimum value of X under which duty is not paid?

Pure pot luck! For items less than $100 the processing charges are more painful than the duties payable, but if the vendor states a low value for customs, then that's what they charge for - if they're in the mood. I've never been billed for anything less then $50, from recollection.
Putting 'gift' on the package doesn't work either DAMHIK

I especially liked the one which said 'vintage motorcycle parts being returned to the country of origin' - like we're getting what we deserve!

I just liked that quote. Didn't feel a need to post the whole article.

Is this something I shlould be considering for my MK III if for no other reason that to eliminate/reduce oil leakage on mating surfaces? Also, is there a picture available? Search function didn't help on this one...
