SS EXHAUST SYSTEM

Hi all,
I fancy fitting an SS exhaust system on my 750 Interstate with a pair of Pea Shooters just for a change.
At present I have the standard low level exhaust system.
Has anyone else done this & what do I need to change & what bracklets do I need to make or buy.

I have fitted an SS pipeset with some Emgo Dunstall replicas I got from GrandPaul. You will need to make or find some hanger brackets that attach to the upper shock bolts. If you like, I could send you my prototype pattern, which is just a piece of sheet aluminum. I also posted pics here of the mounts if you'd like to dig back through old threads. The system still needs the rubber donuts between the hangers and the mufflers, but other than the new hangers, you can use stock parts. I still haven't done the heat shields and will post up when I do. P.M. me your shipping address if you would like the prototype pattern.

thanks for the speedy reply.
Did you have any trouble with clearance between the exhaust & the side panels.
The panels are quite fat & rounded on the interstate but pictures of the SS model seem to have flat looking side panels.
If I get a set I will just get my mate to make a set of brackets but thanks for the offer of sending your patterns to me.
I live in the UK so it would cost a lot to send them.

SS exhaust pipes will be available from Andover Norton sometime this winter and I believe the brackest for the silencers are actually available ex-stock.

The pipes lay very close to the Roadster fiberglass sidecovers. You can rotate the pipes at the head, but it makes them stick out at a funny angle that complicates muffler mounting. Sidecovers from the S model might be a viable alternative. They look to be flatter and less protrusive than even standard Roadster covers.


This is the pattern for the brackets I made. I did a trial-and error process until a suitable shape and proper bolt-hole locations were obtained


I traced it onto aluminum plate after flattening it out.


Cutting up sheet-metal flashing is a lot less wasteful than making a whole bunch of brackets that don't work out. It only took two or three possibles to come up with something that would work.


I made the brackets to work with stock muffler mount plates.


Here is one of the new brackets next to the sheet metal prototype.


This shows one of the new brackets in place. They bolt to the back side of the shock mount. There is a slight radius cut-out where the bracket runs horizontal past the top of the shock to give clearance for shock movement.

Most digital cameras have a button you press to put it in 'close up' mode. You may want to look into that.

That looks like camera shake from a slow shutter speed due to low light.

Solution : either a tripod (or bean bag ect support) OR more lights.
