UK mag overhaul?

Hi,

My 650 (and 750 featherbed) have Boyer systems, and I'm quite happy with them. The 650 has the unit inside a K2F mag body, and has worked will since 1997....!

I recently picked up a K2F, believed good, and sparking well when turned by hand.

I wanted one just because it was original to the bike, and I like the simplicity and reliability discussed elsewhere.

Wanting that reliability, and the hassle of fitting more than once, I thought I'd get it checked & serviced. Sensible? How much of the former can I do myself? What to look for/check?

And any recommendations for who is good for this in the UK? Am in north London, but am presuming no one nearly....?

Thanks in advance!
Andy

Dave Lindsley has sadly retired. Tony Cooper 0121 559 2405 has done two K2Fs for me in recent years with good results.
A properly rebuilt Lucas magneto will be reliable for many years. In forty five years of running Brit bikes I've only had two that started to fail, one on the 650ss & the other on the Atlas,& both of those got me home once I'd let them cool down for twenty minutes. Both times it was due to the armature windings starting to break down, but as they were both almost sixty years old it came as no surprise. So now when ever I rebuild an old banger with a mag, it just gets rebuilt as a matter of course.
