Solid state oil cooler by Alan Goldwater. Besides his direct oil temp measures inside engine he also tried to do something elegant about it. Alas Harley found oil coolers don't protect air cooled engine parts, just the oil which ain't a bad thing for the oil, if still hot enough ~200' F to from the ZADP thin protective layer. Local contact metal-metal high spots can spike to almost 1000'F while other thin oil layer hot spots can heat oil well over 400' F but no cooler can affect that.

Alan sent me his pdf file on his side cover cooler but can't copy pfg format to share here other than to offer it up one by one via private email requests. Ping me directly here

I also wonder about real effectiveness of an oil cooler, I think someone could make a better argument for not having one then that they need one..... My 2 cents can send me that PDF to my email though djkrab@shaw.ca

Best I can glean form many sources over the years is oil cooler are not a good idea on vast majority of street bikes for a number of reasons, but they look cool and Nortons can get hot in dry tail winds climbing Mt ranges loaded two up in summer time. Can't hardly get an idling Commando even putt putt moving hot I found by measuring in mean conditions. Anywho here's Alan's goodie..

Hi Steve,

The file for the cooler is at:
http://inoanorton.com/docs/cool-tec.pdf

and the accompanying article is at:
http://inoanorton.com/docs/OilTemp.pdf

You can distribute these links on other lists but please don't copy and post the files themselves anywhere else.
This is to ensure that any future revisions I make will be effective.

How is the lovely Ms Peel these days? That supercharger looked pretty serious!

Best regards,
Alan
