Side stand pivot bracket.

1971 Roadster I recently acquired came without a side stand. Even though it’s a ‘71, it appears that it has an earlier frame with the sidestand lug on the inside of the frame member. I’ve gotten the stand, pivot bolt, and spring but it appears that I also need the pivot bracket 06. 0675. I haven’t been able to find an illustration of how this bracket mounts to the frame. It has two threaded holes for studs and nuts but I can’t see how it mounts. Thanks in advance for any insights.

'71 is a one-off sidestand year, replacement new stands are all '72 and later. They require attaching a bracket to the frame which needs to be brazed up at the right angle. If you have a working center stand, I would forget about putting a sidestand on a '71 unless your bike still has its lug and you have the original stand somewhere. Most were broken off long ago.

Andover Norton on their 71 frame repair parts page lists the 72 onwards weld on lug bracket for use with 72 onwards parts.


None of the 71 parts are listed.

So either convert to 72+ or use the centre stand.

Andover Norton 68-70 drawings show the prop stand and associated parts including the bracket 06.0675 but they are just photos of the parts and not a drawing and how it goes together. Had I not already purchased the other parts, I’d probably just forget about the sidestand but I’m somewhat committed now. It would be more convenient for short stops like opening a gate or garage door.

68-70 is different than '71, and AN's website wants '71 owners to convert to a later stand.

You need to grind off some of the frame paint, mock up/assemble the stand on the lug, ensure angle allows for a range of motion of the leg where the rubber bumper / stopper comes in contact with the rear frame. Not complicated just takes some skill and the right equipment.

My late 70 had the lug , 2 bolts to bracket and short sidestand . I found it just fine , but others liked the long prop , requiring measuring and welding up .
The centerstand was horrid , no feet , narrow , fragile and the bike would fall over if if put up on any less than perfect surface .
