Side stand pivot bracket.

The centerstand is hollow tube. The sidestand is solid. I think they weigh about the same with all the hardware. The early, non-braced ceterstand might even weigh a bit less than the sidestand!

If I had to chose having just one, i'd prefer a centerstand every time.

Just for you my friend , mine weighs out with the spring and mounting hardware at 5.31 lbs .
I got rid of the rim lock too , after it caused a puncture from small chafing . Years back .
CAA to the rescure fom here on in . New rescue radius is 200 kms . , or in your A.A.A. situation , 124.274 miles .

Last good trip on my Commando was Gettysburg PA to Shady Valley TN and back with a few hundred miles of mountain riding between there and back. No AAA to yhe rescue, no chase truck. Its a road goer not a show goer, I like to have all the advantages I can get.

Talk in 3 wks. my friend . Burning the rubber with the wife camping and hotels when rain . Fishing . Smoke . Natives . Money no object on this one .
 
At home always start on the centre stand because I have to. On the forecourt: side stand as I am unwilling to risk the bike falling over in public. When hot it is usually roll it down a hill.
 
Apologies for the thread slide here. But, I have a '71 LongRange Fastback with a great center stand. My problem is that I am just barely capable of dismounting. The side stand would allow me to separate my old carcass from the bike without the attendant terror of balancing everything on my garbage left leg. I'm trying to find specs for welding the mounting tab to the frame. I don't want to just guess at the angle or location.
 
This is the part you need to weld to the frame to fit the later side stand.

Not to mention chain adjustments without dragging out the frame jack to enable spinning the wheel to check final alignment. IMHO
