Now that I have a few days off of work, I am trying to begin the process of selling, or trading, an old bike I have. I wonder if anyone has any good advice on where someone might sell something like this:

My understanding is that Speedway bikes are relatively popular outside the US. There's a small following in California, but I believe that's the only place in the US. I am looking for ideas and recommendations. Thanks in advance.

You have a larger appeal than you think. Lots of people would pay huge bucks just to get that engine.

I know just enough about J.A.P. speedway bikes to sound like an idiot, but I don't mind. That's a mighty nice looking bike and likely to fetch a reasonable sum anywhere it's offered, ESPECIALLY the Vegas MidAmerica auction.

It would fetch less at Deland (Daytona) next year, but it would more likely go to a racer.

Thanks for the feedback thusfar..... I am afraid that me getting the bike to the MidAmerica Auction in early January might be a long shot. Plus. I am halfway hoping that someone who shows interest has an interesting trade.

The bike is in like new condition..... in fact, there's no apparent evidence that it has ever been started. There's no discoloration on the exhaust pipe or engine, the rims are as new with no nicks or scratches, the tires are new and still have the little rubber whiskers on them.... Of course, exhaust pipes and tires can be changed. This bike carries the oil in the frame, and the oil has a strong odor, but there's no odor in the frame..... I am told that if oil had ever been in the frame, I would know it.

I spoke with a guy in California who was a Rotrax/JAP dealer in the 60s and early 70s.... when I mentioned that it didn't look like it had ever been started, and that I didn't even know if it ran, he was quick to say, "That's not a bike you would want to try and start...." In hindsight I don't know if that's because it would be worth more as a "never-been-started" example, or because it was clear that I didn't know a "alcohol burning, full-loss-oil, brakeless, Speedway bike" from a house cat.

Anyway, thanks again for the comments and advice.... I am hoping that some collector out there has one more Norton, or other interesting trade, than he needs and we can reach a favorable agreement.

Thanks Speirmoor, that site looks promising. Lots of cool bikes and parts on that site. I am going to post a few pictures on there in the next day or so.... then wait for the generous offers to pour in....... :|

Thanks again.

See if you can put an ad in the AHRMA news letter or if you know someone that is a member they might do it for you WWW.AHRMA.org A lot of the AHRMA people race anything with wheels :)

The other auction would be the Daytona Bike Week auction in DeLand FL. It's usually the first week in March and they usually have a good turnout.
It's a little closer to AL than the Vegas auction.

What you have as people have allready advised is a speedway j.a.p. probably from the 1960's the motor runs on methanol and oil was castor[vegetable] and was total loss.
