Perhaps we should be asking if Mrs. Doe could be getting the FORUM.

Silly rabbit. Forums cost money to operate. They are essentially a liability. I wouldn't think Mrs. Doe would want it.

A lot of you might think I'm crazy but...., if it has to go.... let it go, like you said Jerry, you can build another one later when things are sorted out and you've moved on. It's a beautiful bike, no doubt about it. Ebay or raffle you should be able to get a good price. Cj

Though I don't know Jerry personally, what he's facilitated here makes him my brother.

Don't sell it, it will help you get through this bullshit.

Sorry it could not be more, but I am honored to chip in.

The only advice I can offer you, brother, is the world is full of pretty girls, But not too many Commandos

cheers,

Don

I've been where you are now with the bullshit that goes with a split and sold my SS, dumbest thing I ever did.
This forum has saved me heaps more than that over a few years.

Selling your bike is like burning the money you'll get. You will never get what you have into it, better that you have your lawyer negotiate a "shared appreciation" where you both agree that your Norton will be worth what you have into it by, say 2055, then you'll sell it and split the cash with your Ex...

Seriously, a divorce is painful, you'll need time on your Norton to clear your head. You need to get your ride off the negotiating table; if that is just a matter of money Rocky Point Cycle will step up and pledge $100. please PM me.

Bill.

Having been through divorce years ago I can say that there is life afterward. Lost my house, Corvette and boat in the deal. I now have 6 bikes and another Corvette. I would be happy to help out but I need someone to let me know how to make a donation.

I'm in for $50 dollars also. This Forum has been a lifesaver for me. As far as women go, I've broken up with several girlfriends and gone through one divorce since I've owned my bike.....the women have left but my Norton has stayed with me. The way I see it, my Commando is the most faithful "mate" I've ever had...In the past 33 years, she's never been out with another guy, I know where she's been every night, and when I'm feeling frisky and want a "ride", she rarely says no.

Jerry,

This forum is by far the the strongest in the Norton community and you have by creating it and allowing people to take part in it offered an amazing amount of knowledge to pass through it. There are active users all over the world....pretty amazing if you think about it.

Imagine one day clicking on the link....and it wasnt here any longer. I am not saying that you selling the bike is forum related but you have had a great impact in helping the Commandos get back on the road. This forum is like a 'live' shop manual that speaks back to you when you ask questions and I think by it being here, you have actually helped many Commandos stay with their current owners as opposed to having them give up and selling their machine.

Its time to return the favor. All active users should do something. Its not a matter of how much. 5.00 or 100.00....all goes towards allowing YOU to decide what to do rather than having the circumstances decide for you.

Question is. Do you want to sell the bike (to get this divorce thing behind you) ? If you dont....then we need to help you keep it.

If you would rather sell it, to settle things....... then we need to help you build another one. This can of course be a great thread in itself.

There are several vendor that watch the forum. Ultimately most benefit. I think that we need to have them step up and donate some product that can be raffled off. I personally dont know how to set that up but I am sure somebody could help out and get it organized so its done properly.

CNW will donate a 500.00 gift certificate, for any product or service I offer, to put towards a raffle or auction.

So Jerry, if you want to keep the bike, the proceeds to buy the gift certificate (hopefully somebody will buy it for full value) will go directly to you. If you would rather start building a new bike, then the gift certificate can go directly to you to use for some parts that you would need for the build.

If somebody that is familiar with creating a raffle or auction, please take charge and let people know how to donate stuff that can be bid on and sold.

Hopefully we can keep you in the seat one way or another.

I hadnt realized it was Jerry that the thread was about.
How does one donate?

Jerry,
Could buying out your wife's half be an option? Is it possible to come up with an amount she would take or is it just a matter that you want the money? Not that it's my business, it might be easier to negotiate a price than selling it and taking a big hit? Just a question, I will be more than glad to donate.

Top right of your screen beside login is the donate button. Click it and go from there.

I've had my Commando since 1974, off the road for 25 years and back last year in large part due to the inspiration of this site. Till death due we part - only hope that my son or my daughter will keep it up afterwards. Just donated $50 and hope that you keep your bike. The only thing better than another Commando is the Commando YOU own.

Hi guys-

I am no lawyer, I'm a shrink. But I have a couple of concerns because we may be inadvertently working against our efforts to help out a Brother Rider.

1) Jerry, please ask your attorney if the money that people are donating is considered your income, and if it might therefore be considered community property in California. I also live in California, and if the money donated off this Forum is community property, then we are actually donating half to your spouse's lawyer. This might not be the case, but it's best if you check, especially since there is a very public record of what people are donating or promising to donate. Also, if this Forum starts generating money directly to you, then it might go from a web forum to a BUSINESS, and that's not good.

2) Ask your lawyer about "wasting an asset", which is what you might be doing if you sold the bike for $1 or something like that. You can't just get rid of an asset for a cheap price- the fair market value of the bike is what the court will consider its value to be. Also ask about raffling it off.

3) Gentlemen of The Norton Community: until Jerry gets some advice from his lawyer, you might want to stop stating how much money you are donating. Not stop donating, just stop stating the dollar amounts. It may not happen, but it is possible that these statements could be considered evidence of income, thus subject to taxes and community property laws. I deal with a lot of Hollywood and Beverly Hills divorces, and they can get pretty creative...

4) It is of course up to you; but man oh man, don't sell the bike unless you really want to sell it. Don't sell it for money- only if you want to be rid of it emotionally or practically. Like if you want a new 961, for instance. The times I have sold off cars or other toys just to pay for things, I have regretted later.

Please understand that I am NOT a lawyer; but I am advising you to talk to one.

So sorry to hear you are going through this. I've been there myself, and even if it goes well, it's a difficult and painful experience. Drop me a note if you want some support. And good luck to you.

Wow, good thinking askadoctortoday. The last thing we want is to coplicate a complicated situation. Donation sent Jerry and hope it helps no matter what it goes for. Perhaps if a price can be srettled on that makes you two happy the forum can cover what she wants, then the bike could be left in your care as a perk for being the host. I guess we are jumping the gun & trying to decide what is really only for you to decide. Also to you Commonz, Matt (CNW ) and Bill (Rockypoint) I would like to say thanks to the three of you for being stand up guy's. I myself have done buisness with all of you that only happened because of things I learned about here on the forum and you are good people for giving back to those who have helped you. Thanks, and peace be with you Jerry, Glenn.

Good advice,we can edit our posts to care of this.

Jerry. I think this is a fabulous forum and its one of the regular parts of my life. I'm about to sell one of my Commandos (money next week), so how about I buy your's (selling price on ebay for nice ones seems to be about $7K or thereabouts, but let's talk) and we agree a delivery date sometime in (say) October of 2012? I'll pay the full amount up front (next week), but leave the bike in your care, for your use, and you can buy it back for the same price at any time between now and then? I'm sure you'll take good care of it for me and who knows, having a bike over there may help me realise one of dreams - doing some riding in the US. I don't know how the system works over there, but I do know someone in Denver if you need a US citizen to transfer the title into (if that's necessary). I'm off to a bike swap meeting in Melbourne now, but email me if this offer is of any use to you and I'll get back to you Sunday evening my time. Bill

Jerry's got my $50.
Site well worth it for information and entertainment.

Guys. Donation button on upper right of screen. Jerry's had it there for a long time for voluntary contributions to support the site.
Credit cards or PayPal. Piece of cake.
