Hello all,

For US members...

Unfortunetly due to my divorce i am being forced to sell my bike. It really sucks, but I have to for survival purposes. I want to get as much as I can for it but dont really know what its worth. I am looking for feedback, again this really sucks but oh well I will put another one together later. So its a 1973 MK2 A. Its perfect in everyway. It has a single mikuni, belt drive, interstate tank and I have a roadster tank/seat, and at the moment has interstate tank with custom seat, both black gold. Stock cam, belt drive, acront rims, stainless spokes, pazon, boyer battery free ignition (with small battery), o ring chain, quaife gbox strengthened shell, with double adjusters, vernier isolastics, new tires, dyna coil, superblends, completely rebuilt about 5000 miles ago. Some stainless, norvil front brake with modern master cylinder. It runs perfectly and is one sorted norton. see pics here http://jerrydoe.com

So how much is it worth? Anyone want it-- I am in southern California
Or if you are very rich how about donating to the forum hehe :D

Cheers Jerry

Take a look at what the close to auction ending prices are on Ebay for Commandos in similar condition.

Looking at the closed Ebay auctions is a good indicator for sure. The problem is there probably isn't a similar bike that has sold on there. I don't mean to sound negative about your prospects but one problem with a bike that is highly refined is that it narrows your market considerably. Unless of course you give it away.

To be bold...how much money do you need to raise? You might be better off with a raffle right here on the forum than trying to sell it outright. I do not know what the legalities of such an enterprise might be. I have seen houses that were sold by running contests with an entry fee.

How many members are on here. If we all coughed up 20 bucks are we even close to solving anything? Or would it take 100?

I am sorry to think about you having to sell your bike,

Russ

I just donated 50.00 USD to the forum.

I am challenging every forum member to match it or beat it. It comes out of my entertainment budget, so it basically means one less night jawing at the bar, or a dinner out with my wife. I guess I will be cooking tonight. One of our own needs help to preserve his ownership of his bike! Get off you butts and help out!

I have said it before that this forum has saved me at least that much in mistakes and grief. Not to mention getting to BS with Norton addicts all over the planet. I would have never known to avoid running down goats on my bike had I not been a member here...

I would be up for a $50 raffle. And i'm sure there are forum members that might be able to help out with moving the bike. I would also be in favor of selling the bike back in the future when times get better, for a pre determined price, mostly the cost of shipping and any unforseen repairs. So more like a caretakers raffle.

$50 raffle, 3100 registered users, if 10% buy 1 each, that's $15500, a fair chance for everyone and some help for Jerry. If you do it - have it open ended until enough tickets have sold to get you in a better place.

Don't sell the bike Jerry. You got 50.00 from me. Come on guy's . Jim

Jerry,

A donation just came from me. I like to help out a fellow Norton rider whenever I can. I don't post much on this forum, but I do enjoy it. Let's keep it rollin' gang!

Regards,

Don

If the bike is special to you. Don't sell it. Negotiate something else like a car, IOU, etc. That way, you'll never have to kick yourself in the ass later on in life.

I had a custom license plate frame once that said "women may come and women may go but Nortons are forever." My third made me remove it, but it is in a safe place. Jim

Never sell a bike for finacial reasons. Bike gone, money soon to follow. I'd drug the soon to be ex and sell her off for cash. I donated to the cause.

Wow--thanks everyone-- You are so kind.

I dont want to raffle it. If I sell it it would have to be a cash sale.. I am trying to think of other options to keep it.

Thanks you everyone for the donations.

Great thinking Rvich. Wish I had thought of it first.

I’m in for $50. Well worth it. I figure I have saved a hundred times that in psychiatric bills.

If your bike is one tenth as good as this forum, it belongs in the Smithsonian.

If you want disguise your bike, Grandpaul can make it a monoshock. Or, you could use KSUWildcatfan to hide it. (he, and his father, have some kind of registration scam going)

We could put on a show. I could sew the costumes, Swooshdave could make the sets, and ………can you sing?

If that guy that was going to have t-shirts ever gets it going, maybe there could be an way to tie in.

LMFAO.

+1 for not selling. Do absolutely anything you can to keep it. That bike is gorgeous.

Don't sell it Jerry, there are few if any that well sorted so a compairison price is hard. You won't get what it's really worth so try to hang on to it. I have a idea, I live in Fullerton ten min up the 55 from you. Leave the key in it, I will come get it & store it. Call it stolen collect the insurance and a year from now it will strangely show back up on your door step. All joking aside, some things are worth more than $. Sorry about your divorce, hope you can hang on to it but no matter what, you will come through this ok. Donation will be sent. It's the least we can do.

OK...hang on. I just saw this post and saw that it's the real Jerry Doe talking about selling his bike.

Jerry,

No way. If there's one thing you ought to keep out of a divorce, it's your Norton. I can almost guarantee that you will regret the decision to part with it. Do not do it.

So,

Please elaborate on what it's going to take for you to keep it. Are donations going to do it? If so, I'm in.

Steve
