SBR Norton to the UK

For those forum members who maybe interested, this is New Zealand's fast 750 Norton heading overseas for a campaign at the IoM and some UK rounds of racing as well.

Nice. And he is running your exhaust. Did Plaz build the motor?

Yes he did, both motors , not my exhaust system, one of his own although I did supply him with a muffler as a spare.
They will do well Im sure

Could you post a few details of the machine ? Pictures only show the outside (unless the internals are on the NZ secret list).

As you so rightly say, Donnington is an opportunity to run open exhausts - as is the I.O.M.
In a world slowly being overmanaged by meddlesome doo-gooders and politically correct fanatics, the few open exhaust meetings still available for us to enjoy are becoming increasingly rare.

One of the most enjoyable open exhaust meets is the annual Bikers Classic at Spa-Francorchamps, first weekend in July. Always a huge range of bikes (theres about 600 odd in the classic groups plus the GP classes, sometimes sidecars. Then there's the stuff spectators use as transport...

The track is wonderfull as well. One of the longest tracks currently in use (excluding the IOM of course) at 7km, very hilly and bloody fast.

I watched this bike race last year at Hampton Downs,Very nicely prepared,and very fast too.
The young bloke riding it was good to watch.

i don't know enough to let any trade secrets out, so probably mostly stating the obvious below, but from what i understand
short stroke 750, long rods/short deck pistons
custom CNC machined crank cases - there are pics on this forum somewhere, i think Jim Comstock bought a set.
Head, full auto but they bought one with minimal machining and did their own porting etc.
Cam - don't know but there is an old thread on here about DRC 7 cam and heavily modified RH4 head which had been on my road bike, Plazz has both of those in his war chest but may or may not have used them.
Barrels - last i heard still cast iron.
Gearbox - TTI.

Here on pg 1 and more pics on pg 3 from when I went downt to Richie's shop. The cases were very nice, but overkill for what I was doing with my motor.

I am jealous - you are doing the right thing in going to Europe with your bike. When I was a kid I was studying at night school and one year failed a lot of exams. My mate suggested I should get a job in the company he worked for and we could both transfer to London and go road racing. Because he was a bit of a rat-bag, I chose to stay in Australia and have a family. In recent years, just before he died I told him I'd made the wrong choice back then. The way I ride motorcycles, I would probably have come home in an urn. However you only live ONCE. Good luck with your racing, I know you will love it over there.
