Rocker gaskets from Viton

sorry, not trying to flame anyone, just my 2-cents. if folks prefer something different, that works for me. a little flattening prior to installation (as greg marsh said) , a little grease, and OE type should work fine. probably the biggest issue with leaking gaskets is over torqueing hardware.
Yep I agree on this
I've never had a problem with the standard gaskets but if it helps to use silicone on some bikes then so be it

Silicone is really the wrong material to use. While it's got good thermal characteritics, it tears easy and degrades in contact with hydrocarbons. Viton is a preferable material, but can get pricey

So I went on a 530 mile round trip to Bala falls Muskoka last weekend using JS tappet cover gaskets and all I can say is, I'm a happy camper. No leaks anymore. I give it a thumbs up for the product. I bought the whole engine kit so
the rest of the gaskets will go on the bike when I shut her down for the winter. Too busy riding now.
Cheers,
T
