If you use two straight edges, one against the front sprocket and one against the clutch, then overlap them, it is easy to see if the alignment is correct.
Yep but it should be kept in mind this is a very rough guide to first setting up
This method would also show up any immediate alignment issues

Here's my simple solution. No waiting for parts to get delivered. Just carve a spacer out of alum. I have 3 of different lengths. Haven't changed it in years. I'm a believer in economic simplicity.

I reckon this is pretty simple too. It is how Rickman did it with a single plate fitted, on the drive side and they supplied the customer with a set of plates with different hole placement to provide primary chain adjustment.

After installing the belt at correct tension, based on the shaft centre distances, this is a fixed plate, as no adjustment is required.

To address maintaining the shafts parallel, soon after this photo was taken, a fixed plate was added to the plate on the timing side.

Belts have been changed, it's a race bike so mainly precautionary, but the plates remain the same.....

Now that's some very good suggestions! I can see some plates appearing on the beast this winter :)
