It seems to me that if you installed one of those, it would be next to impossible to get a wrench on the nuts.

Am I missing something obvious.

Of course I am talking from the primary side.

impossible if you face it the rear. almost but possible with it facing to the front. if you are installing a belt drive I set it up with the inner case off, 75/80.degree twist with two fingers. it is a whole lot easier.

I have just put one on my project and can agree that it will be fun, But I think with a socket and extension you should be able to get to it from the back. I also read that when some people install them they turn it around to face forward. I decided to install it the same way as the other side, I guess I shall find out. Chuck.

I mounted mine facing forward. I also bought a cheap 1\2" wrench, cut the end off and rewelded it back on at 90 deg. so I could use it between the primary cover and engine plates.

It seems to me that mounting from the front is impossible unless you mount it from a angle, which does not make sense or would look right, there just isnt enough cradle or is it just an illusion.

The reason for wanting to know is because I am going to stainless, and I thought why not. But I dont race my 71, maybe the odd chirp to bring the front wheel up a bit, so it looks like I will be going for the stock one.

It will fit facing forward. If you are running a belt drive I feel it is an must to get the belt to track. If you are running the stock setup than you only need the one.

You might want to use reduced size nuts on the left side adjuster, same as the nuts used to secure the stator.

They are 5/16" UNF thread but with a 7/16" spanner size, much easier to gain access with these.

The standard 1/2" spanner sized nuts leave too little space between the cradle and the adjuster nuts. :)

Well guys this all had me worried as I mounted mine facing the rear, But as I had a closer look at bike it won't be a problem on my bike. The chain guard is from Colorado Norton Works and I have mounted my horn up on the coil mount bracket. The only thing that will need to be removed is the rear fender and you have an easy way to access the rear bolt. It won't be as easy as it facing forward but how often will you have to adjust it? I was wondering why it would be set to face forward but now I can see with the stock chain guard, horn and fender in place it would be hard. I am building this bike from the ground up and never thought of these things blocking the bolt but they would and maybe a different battery tray would also make it hard too. Thanks for the info. Chuck.
