As title, RGM followers/lifters.

Anybody have experience with these. Are they the same as AN?

Apllication is a race motor.

Certainly they are cheaper!

Yes, they are listed as the same as AN.

Steve, you do know that the listed price is for a pair... not four?

RGM work out at £4.90 cheaper for four... not worth getting excited about that is it?!

FWIW I have just ordered a set for my 920 build.

Have them and the cam you are going to use hardness tested before you use them. And then you probably won't use them.

BSA lifters.

With a Maney cam? Or stock cam? Or PW3? Or etc?

They are only an option when using the full kit inc special cam, bronze follower blocks, and pushrods.

Hence my question to Ken, what else is someone to use if not going the BSA route?

Personally, I am going on the advice of the person who made / supplied my barrel and camshaft, and he said to use stock AN lifters.

Whilst that may be true, I can show you a bunch of what goes wrong......but what option do I have for a flat Norton lifter?

How long before something more suitable is available?

It is either use some of not go racing, which at 65 isn't an option.....

No, you are right, I had misread the AN price.

BSA lifters can be flat, the bronze cam follower block will need modifying as the shaft diameter is larger than the A65 cam follower.

Megacycle 560-00 cam, with cam followers radiused by Megacycle.

ARGUABLY the best option if not racing or all-out performance.

This is a thread about cam followers.

If megacycle make followers, do let us know.

We’ve seen these before Kommando, but I’m not aware that anyone has addepted them for a Norton yet?

I don’t know how they fit / work in a BSA or what the corresponding BSA cam looks like, and it’s difficult to get a sense of scale from the picture. But looking at the picture you posted, I don’t see how they could work in a Norton, because the follower foot depth looks less than a Norton’s cam lift. So, with the follower housing pushed up to clear the lobes of the cam, the follower foot would be virtually unsupported when on the base circle.

Cam follower height is much the same as Norton, foot is stellite tipped and PES make them new.

Base circle and cam lifts on cam are very similar to Norton, the Unit Single MX cam uses the old Goldie Scrambler cam timings so again similar. The inside follower runs against the camwheel inner face to kept it running straight plus a 5 degree angle on the foot also guides it straight, the Norton bronze housing could be slotted to guide the follower at full lift as per Triumph. You have to use the later thick feet version, the earlier thinner foot versions break off.

No one has adapted it yet but some one might now it out there as a suggestion.

Yes, I hope this leads to someone taking it up too, especially if those followers are in plentiful supply!

But I still see challenges.

If you look at the picture below you’ll see that it’s not gonna be easy to fit a follower with a longer foot.

You can also see how the A65 followers rely on the fore and aft support to keep them aligned. It’s these fore and aft support parts that have to be set high enough to clear the lobe. And when this is done, there is only a small amount of follower being supported when it’s on the lobe base circle. As lift commences, this can cause the follower to dig in to the flower block. Hence the importance of setting them up to give min clearance and max support.

The tapered design of the follower you showed would make this an even bigger challenge, the follower edges just aren’t gonna be deep enough. A complete redesign would be required I feel.

In the second picture below you can see how this was such an issue with big cams that Herb Becker extended the follower feet depth in order to countermeasure the issue of lack of support.
