Don't forget the spring on the actuating arm. Putting the springs on the shoes is a whole adventure in itself. I found it easiest to take the shoes off , put the springs in place and then spread them as an assembly to fit. The springs have a lot of tension and because of the small area to work in all of my old tricks from my '64 Chevy were pretty useless.

So was the final dummy axel 1.375 at the wide flange?

To be honest in the urge to put the damn thing together I didn't measure it. I assume it is the 1.375 as the 1.5 wouldn't work.

hello

I have a question for you ....

I have a 1969 Norton commando and the rear axe broke (during a ride !)

I assume that the dummy axle is part 06-0291 ( models 1968 to 1970) - my question is : is the part 06-0289 ( the broken main axle) fitting into this early dummy axle ?

thanks for your feebacks

Is your question what is the part number the axle?

I believe the rear axle is the same for all pre-MkIII bikes.

Are you going to be able to remove the broken axle from the dummy axle? It might come out.

Swooh'r, this fracture is just the 2nd one I've heard reported last
12 months or so, it happen to me, it can happen to any one any time.
There's a DIY solid axle upgrade possible depending on lucky
you feel pressing past the ton in glee.
Split axle is only thing that really needs magnafluxed before
install and every few years after wards, if not just renewed.
Also could best item tobenefit by cyrogenic tempering.

I've recovered my mower so its no longer dangerous to reach shed access
to the stub axle you asked about. Its junk to me but may
fit yours, leave a snail mail and you too can have a complete
set of stub axles to share.

So, does anyone remember the fun I was having with the rear axle? There was the 20tpi axle and dummy, and it wouldn't fit my brake drum?

So I find this on Les' site:

http://www.norvilmotorcycle.co.uk/wheelhub.htm

AXLE - STUB - REAR WHEEL - PRE COMMANDO - 20 TPI

Sonofa...

I thought for sure that a pre-Commando wouldn't be 20tpi. Silly me.

So now I have some guy in Malta who wants the axle for his chopper. DomiRacer only wants $35 for a new one. What's a used one worth? $20?

And I have the really nice stub axle that Paul sent me, I need to send it back to him for his featherbed project(s).

At least I feel better that this seems sorted out.

Only shopping for some women can end up with more returned items than a Cdo.
Didn't you get the stubs I sent to try?

After you get the brake pawl lever spring on and ready to nip up axle nut, do ya know the next step before ya nip up the nut?

Step on brake pedal to centralize everything before tightening big nut on drum and axle? Makes a big difference.

I did get at least one, but I haven't played with them.
