I've just finished rebuilding the transmission on 'Pa', my trusty MKIII. It had become almost impossible to find neutral whether or not the engine was running and it had a few small oil leaks.
The neutral finding problem was due to the bushings for the camplate and the quadrant plates being loose in the case and floating in and out. This caused two separate problems; the quadrant and camplate would rub against each other causing undo friction, and the rivet on the camplate to actuate the neutral switch was coming into contact with the inside of the case and jamming up the works.
The solution was to replace the bushings and secure them with some Loctite bearing mount. I replaced all the seals and gaskets during the job and all was well with the world again.
During my one-hundred mile check up and oil change I found oil leaking from the quadrant shaft. It leaks worse then before, it appears to be properly seated with no excessive end or radial play but when the shift lever is operated oil can be seen squishing out.
So I'm looking for the correct size for an X-ring oil seal for the quad and camplate shafts.
The Tech Digest is rather vague on the nomenclature and a search on this forum didn't help me either.
