There seems to have been some confusion in the past about reversing the gear lever for those that want to run rearsets, and how to go about reversing the shift pattern so that you can maintain the one up three down pattern.

Hopefully this post will help others!

Here is the standard camplate from my gearbox.
I wrote the numbers on it so I could get my head around things:

Below is the "Universal Reversible Camplate"
As of March 2018, the only place I could source this was from Norvil.

As you can see, it can be used for standard orientation as well as reversed configuration, which confused me at first, as it is sold as a "Reversed Camplate".

Again, I wrote the numbers on it so I could understand it:

I have drawn around the standard camplate (in red) and superimposed the reversed indentations over the top (in green), so you can see how they relate to each other:

As you can see from the above, it is NOT possible to simply reverse the plate when you reverse the lever.

Fitting is pretty straightforward.
The top part of the quadrant knuckle lines up with the top right stud, as stated in the manual.
Instead of lining up the fourth gear indent on the plunger though, you simply line up the first gear indent:

For piece of mind, I trial fitted the inner cover to make sure that the quadrant knuckle didn't foul the top or bottom of the slot before I put the innards back in:

Hope this is useful for a future Nortoneer!

Nice explanation, we had been around that some times ago and the myths were going on , without any such clear explanations , thanks !

It does not look right, pretty sure one of the neutral positions is in the wrong place.

No Sir both neutral positions are in the right place. There are two ways to change the stock 4-speed camplate into reverse shifting camplate; with or without repositioning the spindle to the other side as the selector fork slots in the camplate are symmetrical unlike the 5 or 6 speed camplates (making it necessary to press the spindle into the other side). Both ways require grinding 5 new notches in the camplate however instead of grinding each notch on the opposite side (180 degrees rotation) plus repositioning the spindle you can also mirror graphic image the notches to the other halve of the camplate and leave the spindle in place (which shows gtiller's drawing above).
