First Time rebuilder and about to install primary drive. Existing installation had 3 shims on the inside of the clutch assembly. Question is: how to measure/gauge/judge the aligment for shims, if necessary?
Anyone?

primary alignment

Greetings,
No biggie, just loosely install the front sprocket and the clutch without the chain, use a straight edge from one to the other (side of sprocket teeth) and adjust accordingly. Its even easier if you do it before you install the inner primary.
Just a side note, when you install the clutch some manuals give the spec at 70 FT Lbs, don't do it, you could shear the circlip. The clutch is not on a taper and gives no thrust support to the transmission shaft, it only needs to be tight enough so that it does not come loose.
