Probably too late now but is it accepted to paint the filler neck on the tank? I have seen it both ways.

I wouldn't recommend you paint the area where the cap gasket seals.

It's your bike. Paint it if you like. You only have to please yourself.

I recently repainted my Hi-Rider tank and I masked all the way around the side of the neck after cleaning out the factory paint (which went all the way down). When the cap is closed, all you see is paint, but when it's open, nothing but clean steel. Paint where fuel can get to it is a recipe for clogging something up. Some like to paint in there to keep the finish from lifting around the neck, but where do you stop? I guess time will tell if I did it correctly or not.

So did my Mk3. I can show pictures if you like. But I don't think it is a good idea.

A bit of modern fuel will soon remove it, despite being painted on originals it is not a good idea.

In My experience, running the edge of the paint layer under the gas cap gasket offers an excellent chance for the gas to get under it and bubble the paint.

Anymore, I always leave the entire neck bare. Prolonged exposure to today's ethanol based fuels will just wreak havoc on the painted inside portion of the neck and eventually creep out and down the side of the neck. So I always explain to customers, just keep it polished and avoid all the unpleasantness of wrinkling paint. Triumphs are even worse as there is more next exposed.
